Belfast Telegraph claim Middlesbrough want a fee of £5m for Paddy McNair this summer, with the Northern Ireland star in
the final 12 months of his contract at The Riverside – with Leeds United among the clubs eyeing a move.
McNair, 28, has spent the last five years at Middlesbrough – joining Michael Carrick’s side from Sunderland back in 2018.
He has since clocked up a huge 194 outings for Boro, having a hand in 32 goals from a variety of positions.
Not only that, but McNair has clocked up 49 appearances for Northern Ireland. A player that Stuart Dallas is a big fan of,
having played together for their country. He described him as “excellent” in 2019, and incredibly powerful.
TeamTalk reported last week that Leeds were among the clubs considering a move for McNair. Now, the Telegraph say
Leeds are battling Leicester, Burnley, Sheffield United and Bournemouth – and will have to pay a £5m figure.
Middlesbrough want £5m for Paddy McNair with Leeds eyeing move
McNair is naturally a centre-back but has shown during his years at Boro that he is more than capable of stepping into
midfield. Even playing under Jonathan Woodgate as a no.10. Goals, assists, strength, aerial ability, work rate.
A bit of everything. He would be a superb signing for a club pushing for promotion, or looking to stave off the threat of
relegation. But, if he wants to play regularly, then Leeds or Leicester would surely be his best move this summer.
Can Leeds win the race for McNair? The odds are stacked against them given the situation at board level, which has got to be
sorted out as soon as possible. It comes as Marc Roca departs on Monday morning, to join Real Betis.
