JUST IN: ‘I felt a little sorry for him,’ he says of the 24-year-old Arsenal player’s situation.

Arsenal legend Paul Merson admitted earlier this week that he felt “a bit sorry” for Gunners attacker Kai Havertz.

Following his £65 million move from Chelsea, the Arsenal summer signing has yet to make an impact at the Emirates Stadium.

Havertz was once again used in midfield by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on Wednesday night.

The 24-year-old began on the left side of a three-man formation, with Jorginho in the center and Fabio Vieira on the right.

Havertz started brightly, looking eager to make an impression, and went close with an early header that the opposing keeper saved.

However, the Germany international faded as the game progressed, and he was virtually unnoticed in the second half as Arsenal lost 3-1.

Merson, writing on Sportskeeda, seemed saddened by what was happening with Havertz, both in the game and at Arsenal in general.

“Kai Havertz started in midfield alongside Jorginho and Fabio Vieira against West Ham,” he said in a statement.

“And I felt a bit sorry for him, as that’s not his position and he doesn’t really have a fixed role in the team.”

It’s unfortunate to see Havertz struggle at Arsenal after his difficult time at Chelsea.

Kai Havertz on Twitter] Solid team performance. Appreciate all the support today from my teammates and the travelling fans. Means a lot ❤️ #Together : r/Gunners
It’s a shame to see Havertz struggling right now.

He appeared to be a future superstar at Bayer Leverkusen. However, since joining the Premier League, things haven’t gone well for him.

Havertz is good at tackling, aerial duels, and off-the-ball runs, so he should be a good option in midfield. He does, however, struggle on the ball at times.

To be sure, few Arsenal players came away from the loss in East London with much credit, but Havertz hasn’t put in many standout performances either.

Let’s hope things improve and he makes it. Could Arteta use him higher up, perhaps in attack? Let us wait and see what happens in the coming weeks.
