Mauricio Pochettino already has his own Erling Haaland to solve the Chelsea problem and surpass Arsenal.
Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping that Christopher Nkunku’s return from injury will open the floodgates at Stamford Bridge.
A new statistic shows that Mauricio Pochettino is more than capable of transforming Chelsea into a title contender in the Premier League, but there is one problem: Christopher Nkunku. The Blues signed the 25-year-old forward from RB Leipzig in the summer for around £52 million, but he suffered a serious knee injury during a pre-season match against Borussia Dortmund in the United States.
Nkunku’s rehabilitation has recently been accelerated, but he is still a long way from making his competitive debut for the club. The France international has posted numerous pictures of himself in the gym, swimming pool, and undergoing various medical tests over the last month or so.
In fact, he’s recently made a significant progress on his road to recovery. Nkunku was spotted outside on the Cobham training pitches in his Chelsea gear for the first time since the summer, implying that the talisman could return sooner rather than later.
Mauricio Pochettino may have to wait a few more weeks before reintroducing Nkunku, but the floodgates are expected to open upon his return. Chelsea has won nine of ten Premier League games this season on xG (expected goals), according to Sky Sports.
Only Manchester City has a better record than the Blues, thanks to players like Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez. Brighton and Newcastle United are tied for second place with eight xG victories, while Arsenal and Tottenham are tied for third with seven wins from ten.
If Nkunku can make the desired impact in front of goal upon his return from injury, he could very well propel Chelsea up the English Premier League. In the Carabao Cup midweek, the Blues struggled in front of goal against Blackburn Rovers, and Pochettino insisted that his players needed to build confidence.
