Darren Bent, a TalkSPORT pundit, has slammed Arsenal midfielder Kai Havertz for his performance against Newcastle United over the weekend.
Since moving to the Emirates, the 24-year-old has been the number one target for critics. No player has received more criticism than him, but we believe Bent’s latest remarks about the Arsenal player are too harsh.
Darren Bent criticizes Arsenal midfielder Kai Havertz.
In the summer, Arsenal signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea in an unexpected move.
The Gunners needed a replacement for Granit Xhaka in the middle of the park, and Mikel Arteta chose to sign the Germany international over an out-and-out midfielder.
Havertz has had a difficult start to his career as a Gunner. Things haven’t gone well for him, and he seems to be chastised after almost every game.
Havertz has come under fire again after his performance against Newcastle on Saturday, which was a hugely controversial game, with Bent not happy with his performance.
On talkSPORT, the pundit stated, “Kai Havertz – I mean, I heard some Arsenal supporters say he was fine over the weekend. If you pay £65 million for a midfielder, I expect goals and assists. I’d like to make some kind of contribution.
“Not simply running around kicking everyone or running around one-paced.” I need goals, help, and people who are trying to make something. That did not work.”
Havertz had his best game for Arsenal vs Newcastle
The problem people have with Arsenal’s Kai Havertz is that they are constantly expecting him to score and assist but are just ignoring everything else he does on the pitch.
We’re not for one second saying that Havertz has had a good season – he hasn’t, he has been poor. However, his performance against Newcastle United on Saturday was his best in an Arsenal shirt by a mile.
Havertz looked strong in duels, drove forward with the ball well and even showed a bit of bite with his challenges, which is something that nobody has seen from him since he joined Arsenal.
Yes, a goal on Saturday would’ve been great, but some of the things he did against a tough Newcastle side are really encouraging.
