Sheffield The search for Darren Moore’s replacement on Wednesday is still ongoing, and Jess Thorup has recently come up
in the rumors.
Following their promotion from League One, the Owls parted ways with Moore last month. Since then, a plethora of various
candidates have been mentioned in connection with the open position at Hillsborough.
With less than a week until the team’s first preseason friendly, nobody knows who will be named manager or when it might
happen because Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri is known for keeping his cards close to his chest when it comes to
managerial appointments.
After following the team on Instagram over the weekend, there were rumors that the former Watford manager Xisco Munoz
might be in the running for the job. This morning, another foreign manager’s name was mentioned when Football Insider
claimed that Thorup, formerly of FC Copenhagen, was a candidate for the position.
As Chansiri conducts interviews with prospective hires, names like Dean Smith, Nathan Jones, and Slavan Bilic have all
been mentioned. Given that the season doesn’t start for another month and a half, it is hoped that Chansiri makes a decision
soon rather than later.
The 53-year-old Thorup, a two-time champion of the Danish Superliga, is currently a free agent after departing Copenhagen
before the 2022–23 season began due to a tough start to the season. He has also spent time in Belgium, managing both Gent
and Genk in the top-flight.

It began with Steven Gerrard. Paul Ince was then unquestionably understanding. Leave everything aside; Dean Smith is a
lock. The ongoing search for Sheffield Wednesday’s next manager produces new names every day.
The Owls still don’t have a manager exactly two weeks after Darren Moore’s abrupt exit from the Hillsborough hot seat. Jess
Thorup is the most recent out-of-the-box candidate to be mentioned in connection with the position.
The 53-year-old has reportedly been put to the shortlist created by Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri, according to
Football Insider. The rumor mill has recently started to mention Thorup’s name, but who is he really? He is a Danish
manager who most recently served as FC Copenhagen’s manager. He simply came up short of two years at the Parken
Stadium
He sealed the Danish Superliga in 2021-22 before he departed in September 2022. He has previously bossed Belgian sides
Gent and Genk as well as the Danish Under-21 national side. He was linked with the vacancy at Scottish side Aberdeen
earlier this year but was said to have rebuffed advances as he “sees his managerial future at a higher sporting level”.
The players from Wednesday came back to Middlewood on Friday to rehearse and get ready for the start of their preseason
schedule. They have their first bounce match against York City in just five days, but there is currently no manager or
coaching staff on the field. Following David Downes’ resignation, there is a vacancy for a new head of recruitment, and there
are just 17 senior players in the playing roster.
Long-serving Neil Thompson and Nicky Weaver are said to have overseen training this week and, whilst the duo are a safe
pair of hands, the hope among supporters is that they will not be required to take charge for too much longer.
The club’s search for Moore’s successor surely has to come to an end this week as the new season quickly comes into view.
