JUST IN: Alabama football defense just confirm a commitment with Tennessee after Alabama Crimson Tide suspension

Alabama football secured a victory against South Carolina, but the defense still encountered some challenges.

Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Kane Wommack identified several areas for improvement. “We need to focus on not getting our eyes in the wrong place and performing our jobs consistently,” Wommack noted. “This applies not only to pass coverage but also to our pass rush.”

He mentioned that while Alabama has made strides in its pass rush and generating pressure, they still need to optimize their ability to rush as a cohesive unit and maintain consistent coverage on both third and fourth downs.

Alabama allowed South Carolina to convert 7 of 15 third-down attempts. Although this was better than the previous week’s performance against Vanderbilt, where they allowed 12 of 18 conversions, it still shows room for improvement.

As a result, the emphasis remains on enhancing their third-down defense, including effective pass rush and coverage. “These are definitely the areas we need to focus on as we move forward,” Wommack said.

If Alabama aims to reach its defensive potential, they must improve their consistency on third downs. They will have the chance to do so on Saturday when No. 7 Alabama heads to Knoxville to take on No. 11 Tennessee.
