JUST IN: 20 YEAR OLD STARLET AGREES NEW DEAL WITH Owls.

Jay Glover, a midfielder for Sheffield Wednesday, appears to be staying put this year after terms of a new contract were

reached.

The 20-year-old was given a new contract to stay at S6 beyond last season, and now The Star believes that it’s almost a done

deal. This information was first made public as part of the club’s retained list at the beginning of May.

The teenage midfielder made an impression on Darren Moore last season, performing well enough to frequently practice

with the first team and earn his senior debut while wearing the colors of Wednesday.

When the new manager takes over, Moore will be starting from scratch, just like everyone else, but it seems like he’s more

than willing to battle for his opportunity once more, whoever it may be.

As they began their preparations for the 2023–24 season, Wednesday’s U21s returned to training earlier this week. Given

the dearth of senior players in the team at this time, it is likely that at least some of them will be traveling to Spain later this

month.

Glover had been at Middlewood Road since he was 14 years old, working his way up the ranks as an active box-to-box

midfielder. However, in Moore’s first Wednesday game in August, Moore employed Glover as a wingback.

Meanwhile there is still no word on Marvin Johnson’s contractual situation, with his previous deal having come to an end

yesterday. Whether he stays at Hillsborough or not remains to be seen.

The winger’s previous deal came to an end following our 2022/23 season, but he now extends in S6.

The 32-year-old moved to Hillsborough in the summer of 2021 on a free transfer and has since featured 95 times for

Wednesday in all competitions.

Johnson has netted six goals since joining the Owls, proving a key player as we gained promotion to the Championship last

season.

Speaking exclusively with swfc.co.uk, Johnson said: “I’ve spent the last two years here and I’ve loved it.

“It’s a great club and the season we had last year was justified with the work we put in and I’m excited to be here back in the

Championship.

“Every time I put the shirt on I want to give 100%, you want to play every game and that’s my objective.

“It’s good to have the core of the squad still here from last season and it gives us the morale and something to build off.

We got the job done and now we need to build on that.
