Journalist delivers big update on Rival Club and Burnley battle for Chelsea “Powerful” star ahead of deadline day

Journalist Alan Nixon has delivered a big update on West Ham and Burnley battle for Dutch star Ian Maatsen ahead of deadline day.

Playing in claret and blue is not the only thing West Ham and Burnley have in common right now.

Because both the Hammers and Burnley want the same player before the summer transfer window closes on Friday.

Although West Ham have desperately needed young, modern new full-backs for several years, it came as something of a surprise when news broke of interest from Wolves in Aaron Cresswell recently.

West Ham boss David Moyes is said to be targeting young Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen as a replacement.

And West Ham have been refusing to sanction a Cresswell departure until they meet the left-back’s asking price and have a replacement lined up.

That has given Burnley breathing room to try and bring Maatsen back to Turf Moor where he shone on loan under Vincent Kompany last season in the Championship.

Earlier this month earlier a journalist claimed West Ham were confident of getting a deal done with Chelsea for Maatsen in a blow to Burnley’s hopes.

But there has been increasing speculation that he could yet end up at Burnley – especially since Cresswell’s return to the fold at West Ham following a ‘spell away from the first team’.

Now journalist Alan Nixon has delivered a big update on the West Ham and Burnley battle for Dutch star Maatsen ahead of deadline day.

Clarets to make last attempt at Maatsen as West Ham lurk

Writing on his Patreon page, Nixon says Burnley are making a last bid to sign left back Maatsen.

But West Ham remain seriously keen and will allow Cresswell to leave if they can beat Burnley to his signature.

“Maatsen has been involved in the Chelsea squad but his lack of game time has led Burnley to make a further attempt,” Nixon said.

“Burnley were willing to buy Maatsen and keep their two Premier League loans for forwards. But now they would use a loan on the left back.

“West Ham are also keen on Maatsen and would bring him in – a move that would clear Aaron Cresswell to leave.”
