The latest Nottingham Forest news as VAR ruled out a Burnley goal in the closing stages of the 1-1 draw with Forest at the City Ground.

Burnley may feel hard done by to see a late goal disallowed by VAR in the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest, according to Sky pundit Jamie Carragher and Brentford boss Thomas Frank, who are in agreement with Burnley boss Vincent Kompany.

The Clarets took the lead in the first half of the game through Zeki Amdouni.

Callum Hudson-Odoi then topped off an impressive debut with a goal to remember to draw Forest level in the second half.

Steve Cooper ’s men thought that they would have to come from behind again when Lyle Foster found a way past Matt Turner after Scott McKenna’s mistake.

However, after a pitchside VAR check, the goal was ruled out for what was deemed to be a deliberate handball by Sander Berge in the build-up.

The decision was one of the talking points following full-time, with guest pundit Frank, delivering his verdict on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

“Of course when we look at it frame by frame, he touched the ball a tiny bit at that angle, but I think that is very harsh,” he said.

What about the clear and obvious mistake where they have to interfere? What if that is a defender and it was a penalty?

Would he give it? No? Just because it’s in the build-up to a goal and it touches the arm it’s different? They need to use common sense.”

It’s a verdict that Carragher agreed with: “I’m with Thomas (Frank), I think it’s extremely harsh. I think that for me should be a goal.

Initially, he (Berge) is running so he is trying to get there, and then he sees the defender come across so maybe the arm slightly different from his running action but not a lot, but also the defender is coming across and that arm would come up anyway,” he said.

“To say he deliberately handballed it, it did not change direction and I think they could feel a little bit aggrieved there.

When questioned about the decision in his post-match interview, Kompany was unwilling to say too much. But did give a hint to his thoughts when pushed further.

“Even the defender in the duel with Sander Berge doesn’t say anything.

You slow down the images, you highlight it. Do you want me to take a stance? I did everything I could to duck the question!” He said.

“I can’t do anything about it. I don’t really feel anger.

I’m proud of the squad and a sign of a lot of progress.”

After seeing a goal ruled out, things got worse for Foster in added time.

Another VAR check resulted in the Burnley man being shown a straight red card for an elbow on Ryan Yates.

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany is confident his team will put on a performance against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground this evening (7:45pm).

Forest will return to action following the two-week international break and will be keen to claim their second successive win.

While the Reds have two wins from their first four games, Burnley are yet to pick up any points from three games played.

Speaking ahead of the game, Kompany said his team had “room for improvement” and are targeting their first points tonight.

However, the Belgian boss knows Forest are feeling exactly the same way.

He said: “They’re the type of games that you want to get results in, there’s no doubt about it, and it will feel the same for them as it does for us.

I still think our team has got so much room for improvement and therefore I can’t say I will draw any conclusions.

“If we win, then it means it’s a good sign because we’re going to get better. Anything else is still an opportunity for us to get results down the road.

“This season we know the challenge is a big one to show that we belong in this league.

We also have to picture how long this season is, it doesn’t mean every game is not just as important as a final but within the bigger picture it’s about how we get better and get results.

“We think we’re going to get to that place and for us it’s only a matter of time.”
