After Nottingham Forest’s disappointing 2-1 loss to Leicester City, manager Nuno Espírito Santo openly took responsibility for the defeat, stating, “It’s all my fault.” Despite the team’s efforts, Forest were unable to overcome Leicester’s late surge, and Nuno acknowledged that the tactical decisions and preparation ahead of the match were not up to par.
Nuno’s decision to set the team up in a defensive formation, while initially solid, ultimately led to a lack of offensive support when Forest needed it most. The game was finely balanced, with Forest initially taking the lead, but Leicester capitalized on a few key moments late in the second half. In his post-match comments, Nuno reflected that the team may have been too cautious, failing to press high enough and apply pressure on Leicester when they were vulnerable.
“I should have made different decisions with my substitutions and tactical approach,” Nuno admitted. “We were too passive, and that allowed Leicester to gain momentum in the final stages of the game. As a manager, I have to ensure my team is ready for all situations, and today, I didn’t get it right.”
Additionally, Nuno was critical of his team’s lack of cohesion in midfield, where Leicester’s quick ball movement seemed to catch Forest off guard. “We couldn’t dominate possession, and that’s something we need to improve on,” he added.
The loss marked another setback for Forest, who have struggled to find consistent form this season. Despite the disappointment, Nuno’s decision to shoulder the blame rather than deflect criticism onto his players shows his commitment to leading by example. He remains confident, however, that with adjustments and lessons learned, the team can bounce back stronger.
