Indianapolis, IN – June 17, 2025 – In a powerful testament to her enduring loyalty and commitment to the franchise, Indiana Fever legend and WNBA champion Katie Douglas has announced a monumental donation of two custom luxury buses to the Fever basketball team. This extraordinary gift, valued at several million dollars, is set to redefine the team’s travel experience, ensuring the Fever “Ride Like Champions” as they navigate the rigorous WNBA season.

Katie Douglas is an icon in Indiana basketball, renowned for her stellar collegiate career at Purdue, where she helped lead the Boilermakers to the 1999 NCAA Championship, and her impactful tenure with the Indiana Fever. A versatile shooting guard/small forward, Douglas was a five-time WNBA All-Star, an All-WNBA First Team selection, and a four-time WNBA All-Defensive First Team honoree. She was instrumental in leading the Indiana Fever to their first WNBA Championship in 2012, a crowning achievement in her 14-year professional career. Her deep roots in Indianapolis, having attended Perry Meridian High School, make this act of philanthropy particularly meaningful. She was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023.

“This is home, and we ride like champions,” Katie Douglas declared passionately at a special ceremony held at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, with one of the sleek new buses proudly displayed. “Indiana, and especially the Fever, gave me so much. It’s where I achieved my greatest professional dreams, built lifelong friendships, and truly felt the support of a passionate community. Coming back and seeing the incredible energy around the team, especially with the recent surge in popularity, inspired me to give back in a way that directly impacts the players. These buses aren’t just about getting from game to game; they’re about providing the highest level of comfort for recovery, preparation, and fostering that championship mindset. They represent the unwavering commitment we all have to excellence for this organization.”

The two custom-designed luxury coaches represent a significant upgrade to the Fever’s current transportation. Each bus is a marvel of modern engineering and interior design, meticulously tailored to meet the unique needs of professional basketball players. Key features include:

  • Spacious, Reclining Seating: Ergonomically designed seats with ample legroom, allowing players to rest and recover effectively on long road trips.
  • Individual Entertainment & Connectivity: Personal screens, high-speed Wi-Fi, and charging ports for uninterrupted relaxation, study, or game film review.
  • Onboard Wellness & Nutrition Stations: Facilities for hydration and healthy meal options, crucial for maintaining peak physical condition.
  • Dedicated Lounge & Meeting Areas: Flexible spaces for team meetings, strategic discussions, or simply unwinding together.
  • Advanced Climate Control: State-of-the-art systems to ensure optimal temperature and air quality.
  • Secure Storage: Ample and organized compartments for luggage, equipment, and personal items.

“We are incredibly humbled and profoundly grateful for Katie’s phenomenal gift,” said Lin Dunn, General Manager of the Indiana Fever, who coached Douglas during the 2012 championship season. “Katie has always embodied the spirit of the Fever, both on and off the court. Her understanding of the demands of professional basketball, particularly the travel, is unparalleled. These luxury buses will drastically improve our players’ comfort, reduce travel fatigue, and enhance their ability to perform at their absolute best. This is a game-changing asset for our team and a powerful testament to Katie’s enduring legacy with the franchise.”

The impact of such a substantial donation on a professional sports franchise, especially in the WNBA, is immense. Beyond the immediate practical benefits of superior transportation, these luxury buses serve as a powerful statement of the organization’s commitment to player welfare. In a league where team resources can vary, providing top-tier amenities like these coaches can be a significant factor in attracting and retaining elite talent. It sends a clear message to current and prospective players that the Indiana Fever is dedicated to providing a professional, supportive, and high-quality environment.

Furthermore, Douglas’s public act of philanthropy strengthens the already deep bond between the Fever and its passionate fanbase. It highlights the loyalty of former players and inspires further community engagement and investment in the team. As the Indiana Fever continues to build on its momentum and strive for future championships, this gift from one of its all-time greats will undoubtedly play a crucial role. It ensures that the team travels in style, embodying the “champions” mantra not just in their play, but in every aspect of their journey.

Katie Douglas’s profound connection to the Indiana Fever, forged through years of dedication, leadership, and championship glory, finds a magnificent new expression in this donation. These two luxurious buses are more than just vehicles; they are a tangible symbol of her enduring belief in the team’s mission and its bright future. It is a gift that will literally and figuratively move the Indiana Fever forward, ensuring that every player can continue to pursue excellence, riding comfortably on the path paved by legends like Katie Douglas, who built the legacy, one unforgettable moment at a time. Her generosity will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark, enhancing the Fever experience for generations to come and further cementing the powerful, unbreakable bond between the club and its devoted alumni.
