I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that’ – Sky studio love what Cody Gakpo did in post-match interview
Liverpool will face Fulham in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup after beating West Ham United on Wednesday evening
Cody Gakpo left members of Sky Sports’ studio stunned after his post-match gesture involving Curtis Jones after Liverpool’s 5-1 Carabao Cup quarter-final win over West Ham United on Wednesday evening.
Jones was voted man of the match for his performance in the comprehensive win over the Hammers, which saw the midfielder score two high-quality individual goals to stake a claim for a starting spot against Arsenal on Saturday evening in the Premier League.
Regular first-team chances have proven hard to come by for the 22-year-old, who fell further down the pecking order this summer following the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Wataru Endo.
Taking his chance on Wednesday, however, Jones shone in the absence of Mac Allister and Gravenberch and will have his heart set on a consistent run in the side over the festive period.
One individual who was keen to congratulate the Liverpool Academy graduate on his eye-catching display was Gakpo, who had a clear message before handing his team-mate the Carabao Cup man-of-the-match award: “A quick word,” began the Dutchman.
“I’m really proud of you. You work really hard and nobody sees it obviously because it’s behind closed doors. You deserve all the best, keep going.” Responding to this, Jones said: “Appreciate you, as always, brother.”
After this exchange took place, Sky Sports host Mark Chapman was particularly surprised by what had played out and hailed Gakpo’s generosity. “I’m not sure I have ever seen that,” said the presenter. “I really like that! That shows that spirit within them and the spirit within the squad.” In agreement with this, former Liverpool midfielder and now Sky pundit Jamie Redknapp added: “Let’s see that more! I think it’s quite nice.”
Recognising goals have to become a key part of his game for the foreseeable future, Jones told Sky Sports after the full-time whistle: “I say a lot [that] I want to score goals, I want to help the team, that’s what I’ve got to do.
“It’s ok [if] you’re playing well all the time but then you need to start to score goals. That’s what I’ve done there, I’ve scored two. So it’s a big smile on my face. I was saying then at the end of the game, I just want to go and play. If it’s the Carabao Cup, if it’s the Europa League, if it’s the Premier League, if it’s the FA Cup – I just want to go and play. Any time I’m out there and I play, I’ve got a smile on my face, I try to help the lads and the team. That’s what I did.”

Liverpool told initial £39million bid will be accepted – Report
Liverpool are looking to strengthen their backline next month and the name of Goncalo Inacio is in the focus lately.

News – Liverpool have concretely moved to sign £34.3m forward, also want £45m regista – Report
In Spain, reports have indicated that the Lions are flexible and do not want full payment of the termination clause at once.
According to AS, Sporting are ready to accept an initial payment of £39million (45 million euros) and the remaining 15 million euros can be paid in easily achievable add-ons.
So, Liverpool can agree an initial fee of £39million to secure the signing of Inacio in the January transfer window and they should as the 22-year-old is a top center half.
The Portuguese international is also on the radar of Manchester United and Spanish giants, Real Madrid. Hence, the Merseysiders have to act swiftly if they are serious about hiring him.
Joel Matip will turn 33 next year, is currently out injured and his contract at Anfield will expire in just over six months.
To replace the loyal Cameroonian, a quality center back must be signed who can serve the club in the long run and Goncalo Inacio would be a top signing.
In your view, should Liverpool agree initial £39million fee with Sporting?
