Ian Wright has warned Arsenal they must find a way of taking points off Manchester City if they are serious about ending their 20-year wait for the Premier League title.
The Gunners continued their solid start to the new season by ending one hoodoo against a north west team on Sunday, beating Everton 1-0 thanks to Leandro Torssard’s second half strike.
Arsenal face an acid test of their credentials over the course of the next three weeks with games against PSV Eindhoven and in-form Tottenham to come over the course of the next seven days.
Should Mikel Arteta’s side navigate those fixtures successfully, they will hope to build further momentum against Bournemouth before they take on the champions at the Emirates Stadium on October 8.
Arteta is yet to taste victory against Pep Guardiola in the Premier League and Wright believes his old side must find a way to overcome the treble winners, who have been faultless so far this term, if they are to go one better than last season.
He told Premier League Productions: ‘Those three games are big but I wouldn’t say the PSV one so much because it’s a Champions League game, it’s the first one we’re not really into the meat and bones of it yet.
‘It’s a big game for Arsenal but then obviously Tottenham and their form which is very very good, so the derby is going to be unbelievable.
‘Then it’s Manchester City who I believe if Arsenal have got serious intentions of winning the league they’re going to have to beat them at least once.
‘They’re going to have to beat them and beat the teams around them and then hope the other teams are able to cause Man City problems as well because if they don’t beat them at least once it’s going to be very, very difficult to do it.
‘You have to get something from them and then build the momentum and confidence in the team so when you get to them, I’m pleased they dug this one out.’

GARY NEVILLE SERIOUSLY IMPRESSED WITH £90,000-A-WEEK ARSENAL PLAYER V EVERTON
The goal came in the 69th minute from a well-worked corner.
England international winger Bukayo Saka found Trossard with a lovely pass, and the 28-year-old Belgium international finished it off with a wonderful finish.
Praise for Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard vs Everton
Gary Neville was impressed by the goal from the £90,000-a-week (Spotrac) star.
The former Manchester United defender was on co-commentary duty for the match for Sky Sports.
Neville noted while analysing the goal: “It was up to Arsenal to find a way past this stubborn defence.
“This time, they did slide it down the side. Trossard has a lot to do, but it’s perfect. A brilliant finish.
“No chance for Pickford. It’s what Arsenal deserve.”
Important win for Arsenal
It was not easy for Arsenal to win against Everton today.
The Toffees were very hard to break down, and the players were also physical at times.
However, in the end, Arsenal’s class and quality came through.
Arsenal were the better team, and we believe that they deservedly picked up all three points from the match.
And it was an important win as well.
After all, Manchester City are winning matches with ease, and Arsenal need to bag points to keep pace with the defending champions.
