Harvey Elliott has detailed what he said to Mohamed Salah after the Liverpool winger scored his 200th goal for the club.

The attacker levelled the game up against Crystal Palace with a deflected effort 76 minutes in, with Elliott securing the win for Liverpool with a stoppage-time finish.

It was a massive win for Jurgen Klopp’s side and a historic moment for Salah, who has now become only the fifth Liverpool player to score 200 goals in all competition for the club.

And speaking to the Reds’ official website, Elliott admitted that he joked with Salah that he thought his record-setting finish was actually an own goal.

Elliott said on Salag’s 200th goal: “Once again, what an incredible player and an incredible person. There’s no better person to score their 200th goal and he deserves it more than anyone.

“We are all behind him and so chuffed for him. I gave him a bit of banter saying it was an own goal and he wasn’t having any of it! But, as I say, what a guy and what a person to look up to.”

Nobody could have imagined where Salah would end up in Liverpool’s modern history when the winger made the move from AS Roma back to the Premier League in 2017.

Yet the record speaks for itself, with Salah now in a realm that many would consider one that gives the 31-year-old legendary status at Anfield.

Indeed, whilst this could be Salah’s last year as a Liverpool player, the winger will the Premier League a modern-day legend in the English game.

And for Elliott, it will be hard for the midfielder to play with an attacker as good and as efficient as the Egyptian king, who is now firmly a legend at Liverpool.
