Kostas Tsimikas is fit and ready to play against Manchester City this weekend.
The 27-year-old was a surprise omission from Greece’s squad as they finished their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with a 2-2 draw against France.
However, This Is Anfield understands that the decision was made due to concerns about a possible suspension, rather than fitness.
Tsimikas was one yellow card away from serving a one-match suspension, which would have been more significant given Greece’s failure to qualify for the Euros through the traditional group stage.
The draw with France on Tuesday evening confirmed that Gus Poyet’s side would finish third in Group B, behind their opponents and the Netherlands.
They will, however, have a second chance to qualify through the play-offs as a result of their efforts in the Nations League.
That bid will kick off in March with a game against Kazakhstan, for which Tsimikas has been cleared of suspension.
If they win, Greece will face the winner of Georgia’s match against Luxembourg for a place in the finals next summer.
Tsimikas has returned to Merseyside, hoping to earn a starting spot at left-back against the Premier League champions at the Etihad Stadium.
Standing in for the injured Andy Robertson, the Greek assisted twice as the Reds defeated Brentford 3-0 before the international break.
Joe Gomez, who recently played on the left side of defense against Luton Town, could also be in contention for a start.
