Since the club and manager Darren Moore reached a separation agreement last week, Sheffield Wednesday is still without a
manager.
Reporters and bookmakers have linked a number of names, and the most recent to surface is former Sheffield Wednesday
attacker Carbone.
Between 1996 and 1999, Carbone, who is now 51, made 96 league games for the Owls, making 25 goals before moving on to
Aston Villa.
Since his retirement in 2010,
Sheffield Wednesday
has served as a manager in Italy’s lower divisions and served as an assistant coach for
Azerbaijan, but he is currently in charge of Serie E team Pavia, where he is serving in his second managing post.
But he’s set to leave upon the expiry of his contract this summer and Witcoop has revealed on Twitter that Carbone is now
‘keen to land the manager’s job’ at Hillsborough.
Witcoop also adds that Ince – who is one of the bookies’ favourites for the Owls vacancy – is in no rush to return to
management after leaving Reading towards the end of last season.
Will Carbone return to Sheffield Wednesday?
The managerial resume on Carbone isn’t particularly strong. However, Witcoop’s tweet implies that Carbone is just eager to
return and not necessarily that he is being considered for the position.
Expect Sheffield Wednesday to have received a flood of applications, however considering the current situation of the team,
it is unclear whether any reputable and qualified managers have submitted applications.
Although Carbone was a favorite at Wednesday during his playing days, it doesn’t seem like his selection as manager for the
upcoming season will be all that thrilling or motivating.

Moore is on the search for the next chapter in his managerial career following the shock decision to part ways with the Owls
next month, and the expectation is that he shouldn’t take too long to find a new job considering he secured promotion with
Wednesday in 2022/23.
The 49-year-old is currently second favourite for the position at Oakwell as the Reds look to replace Michael Duff after he
left for Swansea City, with Moore – a former Tyke himself – sitting at 3/1 behind Martin Devaney at 4/6.
Moore has the backing of ex-Barnsley star, Bruce Dyer, who thinks that he’d be a great fit for the position at the League One
outfit.
“Darren is everything that represents the community of Barnsley,” Dyer said on Facebook recently. “Loyal, honest,
hardworking, a fighter, with a never-say-die attitude…
Darren spoke so highly of Barnsley’s team to me on the phone last month. He actually used the word ‘heroic’ about the team.
“Barnsley has a young squad, some great young potential in the academy. This is just my humble opinion. I can see Darren
working in collaboration with the Academy staff, U21s staff in Bobby Hassell, Tom Harban, Nicky Eaden to drive this club to
another level. I know Darren’s number two (Jamie Smith) really well, I played with him, another great guy and good coach.”
Meanwhile, Moore is also on the bookies’ list for the vacant job at Elland Road, however he is further down the list for the
Leeds United job, sitting level with Carlos Corberan and Gary O’Neil at 20/1.
