Done Deal: Sheffield Wednesday Promotes 18-year-old Wonder kid to earn senior Team

The 18-year-old is a central midfielder and he’s got a bright future ahead of him. The player has got first-

team appearances to his name and played three times in League One last season.

Shipston is Sheffield-born and operates in the middle of the park. He’s been a regular for the under-21s

and under-18s in recent years and the next step looks like being a senior call-up.

The midfielder was in action against York and Chesterfield over the last week. Wednesday drew with the

Minstermen at the weekend and then defeated the Spireites 2-1 on Tuesday night.

With the transfer window open, Wednesday are able to go out and sign players. However, Xisco

Munoz appears set to go to Spain with the squad that won promotion last season and things are getting a

bit curious.

That has led to some fans be of the opinion that some of the youngsters might get a crack next season.

It’s a notion that hasn’t been played down by Charlesworth and the journalist thinks Shipston might get

a go.

He wrote on a Yorkshire Live Q&A: “I think it’s a fair shout that someone like Rio Shipston and other

youngsters who impress in pre-season could be part of the bench on August 4th. Remember too that the

new rules mean you can have nine subs as opposed to seven last term.”

According to the club’s official website, Shipston idolises Paul Pogba. Clearly, he’s aiming high in his

career and he will be desperate to show what he can do at Wednesday.

Journalist says Shipston could get Wednesday chance

With nine substitutes allowed from a Wednesday perspective, it seems likely that youth players will need

to be used. The current squad is essentially the one that won promotion and signings are needed.

Shipston is a bright, young talent. He plays the ball extremely well and he’s a player that most

Wednesday fans will be all too familiar with.

As a homegrown lad, he would have the backing of the Hillsborough faithful. Shipston could feasibly get

a chance and if the transfer window remains pretty drab, it could be a useful move.
