Sheffield Wednesday have agreed a deal to appoint ex-West Brom sporting director Luke Dowling as the club’s new technical
director, sources have told Football Insider.
The Championship new boys have been searching for a new transfer chief following the departure of David Downes to
Blackpool earlier this summer.
at Leeds and Portsmouth.
He left his last role at West Brom in 2021 after a reported disagreement with the club’s Chinese owners over the
appointment of a new head coach.
Sheffield Wednesday have recently been forced into a manager change of their own following Darren Moore’s exit earlier
this summer.
Owls chairman Dejphon Chansiri claimed Moore’s departure came after he asked for a new contract worth four times as
much as his previous deal.
Former Watford boss Xisco Munoz has since replaced him with a return to the Championship on the horizon.
However, the Spaniard has been blunt about the state of his squad since arriving at Hillsborough.
Speaking after Friday’s 4-0 friendly loss against Eldense in Spain and quoted by Yorkshire Live (21 July), he insisted
Sheffield Wednesday are “not ready” for a campaign in the second tier.
He confirmed he has given his list of preferred targets to the Owls’ transfer chiefs.
The Yorkshire outfit kick off their Championship season with a home clash against relegated Southampton early next month
(4 August).
Wednesday have made just one signing so far this summer.
