Leeds United are one of the teams interested in Taylor Harwood-Bellis this summer, with Manchester City prepared to let
the defender leave for £15 million.
That is according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (30/7; page 59), which notes that West Ham and Fulham are also in
the running to sign the England under-21 captain.
Leeds are apparently eyeing an ambitious move for Taylor Harwood-Bellis as we edge closer to the start of the new
Championship season.
Leeds want Taylor Harwood-Bellis
Daniel Farke has, so far, only been able to welcome a couple of new signings. Karl Darlow became the club’s second first-
team addition of the window on Saturday.
There are concerns over the balance of the squad – particularly with so many senior players leaving on loan this summer.
But signing Harwood-Bellis would be a huge statement from the Whites. The Sun on Sunday (30/7; page 59) reports that
Leeds want the Manchester City starlet – along with the Hammers and Marco Silva’s side.
Burnley meanwhile, are not prepared to meet his asking price. The defender spent last season on loan at Turf Moor, helping
Vincent Kompany’s men to the Championship title.
A real statement from the new owners
It would be a surprise if Leeds spent £15 million on Harwood-Bellis in this window. But if there is plenty of money to spend,
it could be an inspired move for the future.
Kompany labelled the youngster ‘incredible‘ during his time with the Clarets. And it would perhaps evoke memories of the
deal to bring Ben White to Elland Road during our last promotion-winning campaign.
We were made to rue the fact that Leeds could not agree a permanent deal for White. So perhaps the new majority owners
will feel that meeting Manchester City’s demands is a gamble worth taking.
