Under new owners The 49ers Enterprises, the Whites appear to be in for a hectic few weeks leading up to the new

Championship season. Nick Hammond was previously brought in as an interim football advisor to manage the anticipated

transfer activity.

Hay recently reported that a new goalkeeper, left-back, center-back, and midfielder could be on the radar for the team’s new

manager Daniel Farke.

Karl Darlow of Newcastle United, Freddie Woodman of Preston North End, Angus Gunn of Norwich City, Ryan Manning, a

free agent, Charlie Taylor of Burnley, Nat of Liverpool, and Gustavo Hamer of Coventry City are among the players whose

names have been mentioned in connection with a transfer to Elland Road.

Piroe has been mentioned as a target with Sam Surridge of Nottingham Forest, indicating that Elland Road officials are

interested in acquiring a new center forward. Hay stated in a piece for The Athletic:

“Up front, Leeds are one of several teams pursuing Joel Piroe of Swansea, whom they sought at the very end of the summer

transfer window and who is entering the final year of his contract. Sam Surridge of Nottingham Forest is a possible target.

Who is Joel Piroe?

Piroe is a left-footed centre-forward who can also play on either wing if needed and appears to be at the top of his game with

a career-high €10m Transfermarkt valuation.

The 23-year-old was on the books of NEC Nijmegen and Feyenoord before progressing through PSV Eindhoven’s academy.

The Dutchman was sent out on loan to Sparta Rotterdam and made just 14 senior appearances for PSV before moving to

Swansea back in 2021.

Since then, Piroe has gone from strength to strength in England, scoring 22 goals in his first season in the Championship. He

then followed it up by netting 19 times last year, with former Swansea boss Russell Martin labelling him as “clinical”.

“If you wanted it to fall to anyone, it is him, he is so clinical with both feet, and he is a great technician.

“But the most important thing he has is the right mentality when he gets around the goal. He shows composure, he is calm,

and he just focuses on his technique, something that all top strikers possess.”

He has never played against Leeds but Piroe has proven he can be a top Championship player, so he could be just what Farke

and Leeds need heading into the new season.

Piroe could bring more than goals to Elland Road, though. As per FBref, the striker ranks in the top 4% of forwards for pass

completion percentage and top 10% for passes completed, showing that his game isn’t just finishing chances.

Currently, Leeds have Rodrigo, Patrick Bamford, Joe Gelhardt and Georginio Rutter as centre-forward options, but with

Rodrigo linked with a move away and Farke reportedly seeing Rutter as a wide forward, a move for Piroe could make plenty

of sense, and by the looks of things, it is one to keep an eye on.

campaign in his playmaking berth, having statistically been the worst player in the division, according to

In a frantic January, the club also opted for a headline-grabbing loan move for Juventus midfielder Weston

McKennie, but the American struggled to adapt and often drifted out of games, having arguably been “out of his

depth”, according to former Whites star, Jon Newsome.

The only pivot who emerged from the rubble of relegation without any sense of credibility was Tyler Adams, and

if Leeds manage to keep him, they must find an adequate partner.

The Yorkshire outfit is back to square one, and they must avoid a repetition of their previous, fateful errors. They

torrid season for the Whites. The 24-year-old averaged the highest match rating (6.73), the second-most tackles

per game (3.7), and the fourth-most interceptions (1.5) in the squad.

His strong defensive acumen meant he resided in the top 3% in Europe’s top five leagues among his positional peers for

tackles and blocks.

Both the aforementioned players pack fantastic physicality and are formidable protectors for their backlines, whilst Hamer

has an added offensive threat with a keen eye for a goal or assist. The Coventry City star has displayed he is a competent

second-tier performer, who can consistently excel, and he would be a smart acquisition for Farke.
