Scott Godden has signed his first professional deal with Leeds United after progressing through the club’s academy.
A first professional contract has been confirmed by Leeds United for the second time this week. Teenage defender Scott
Godden has signed terms on a one-year deal at Elland Road after coming through the club’s academy, following in team-
mate Max McFadden’s footsteps.
Godden predominantly played with the club’s under-18 side last season and will now look to break into the under-21 set-up
at Thorp Arch next season. The youth has been a regular with Wales through the under-17, under-18 and under-19 age
groups too, even captaining the latter.
A Leeds statement said: “Leeds United are pleased to confirm 18-year-old Scott Godden has signed a first professional
contract with the club, running until the summer of 2024. The defender has progressed throughout the club’s academy
system, showing versatility to operate at both centre-back or full-back, on the left-hand side of the pitch.
“Godden has also represented Wales at under-17 and under-18 level, before then captaining his country at under-19 level.
For the Whites, he played 17 times in the Under-18 Premier League and twice in the FA Youth Cup during the 2022/23
campaign.
“The youngster will now continue his development at Thorp Arch as the academy look to prepare for the 2023/24 campaign
at Premier League 2 level. Everyone at Leeds United would like to congratulate Scott on signing his first professional deal
with the club.”
Michael Skubala is expected to take charge of the under-21s once again next season after taking up first-team duties
alongside Jesse Marsch, Javi Gracia and Sam Allardyce last season.

Leeds United have sealed the first deal in their summer transfer transformation
In what appears to be the first significant transition from Premier League annihilation to Championship assault, Robin Koch
is the first of last season’s key players at Leeds United to depart.
Shedding last season’s top-flight demise finally began at Leeds United last night. Robin Koch is the first of those players with
a significant hand in May’s relegation to jump ship before it lands in the Championship.
Koch, in fact, played more minutes than anyone else for Leeds last season in a defence which conceded more goals than any
other team. As a 26-year-old with designs on caps for a World Cup-winning national team and one year left on his contract,
Koch was always on the list of likely departures this summer.
If you believe the speculation he was in high demand too. Koch’s representatives were not shy in putting his name about to
drum up interest in his services. Ultimately, it’s the Bundesliga seventh’s best team, Eintracht Frankfurt, a Europa
Conference League play-off round and a new home within 70 miles of his birthplace that awaits Koch.
Leeds were just as open to Koch leaving as he was. There was not a huge amount of resistance to seeing another club pick up
100 per cent of his sizeable salary, as well as a loan fee, two months before the end of the transfer window.
