The Chicago Bears are building momentum at just the right time to make a significant move before the NFL trade deadline.
Currently sitting at 4-2, the Bears are emerging as playoff contenders, largely due to the strong development of rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. With a chance to go all-in for a deep playoff run, this is a critical moment for the team.
One area the Bears need to address to solidify their status is the pass rush. Despite respectable stats, they’ve struggled to consistently pressure opposing quarterbacks. While strong offensive lines have been able to contain the Bears’ front seven, a major trade could change that.
Las Vegas Raiders’ Maxx Crosby could be available ahead of the November 5 deadline, and Chicago is reportedly among the teams showing interest. NBC Los Angeles’ Sanjesh Singh highlighted the Bears as a top potential landing spot for Crosby.
“After acquiring Montez Sweat from Washington in 2023, Chicago has been looking for his ideal partner,” Singh explained. “While Darrell Taylor from Seattle and DeMarcus Walker are contributing, Crosby would represent a significant upgrade over both.”
At 27, Crosby is one of the top players potentially available this season. He’s already racked up 5.5 sacks, despite frequent double-teams, and leads the NFL in tackles for loss since 2022 with 54.
Acquiring Crosby would have two key benefits for the Bears. It would elevate their defense to one of the league’s toughest and prevent their division rival, the Detroit Lions, who just lost star pass-rusher Aidan Hutchinson, from getting him.
Although the trade would be costly—Crosby is in the second year of a four-year, $94 million contract with a 2024 option—it could be the bold move the Bears need to establish themselves as legitimate NFC title contenders.
