According to talkSPORT, West Ham United placed a £40 million proposal on Sunday night to defeat Liverpool for the

services of best-in-Europe striker Joao Palhinha.

In their attempt to replace Declan Rice, West Ham appears to have been scared into taking positive action by Liverpool.

Trouble at Fulham, as we had earlier today on Hammers News, may increase West Ham’s chances of signing their star

defensive midfielder Joao Palhinha.

But as Fabinho moves closer to a move to Saudi Arabia, it soon became clear that West Ham might suffer a shattering blow

at the hands of Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp reportedly also keen.

David Moyes must rebuild his midfield after West Ham released Manuel Lanzini and sold Rice this summer.

And Liverpool do too with major upheaval in the middle of the park for the Reds.

James Milner and one-time West Ham target Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have left Liverpool and now Jordan Henderson,

Thiago Alacantara and Fabinho could follow them out of the exit door with moves to Saudi.

The Hammers have been consistently linked with Fulham and Portugal star Palhinha this summer.

It was revealed last month that West Ham have already held talks with Palhinha and his representatives over a move.

Palhinha was unrivalled among defensive midfielders across Europe last season. In fact there was nobody better than him

in Europe’s top five leagues.

This weekend a new report from The Sun claimed there is genuine interest from West Ham in signing the 28-year-old.

But with Liverpool reportedly set to accept a £40m bid for Fabinho from Al-Ittihad, reports claim they now want Hammers

target Palhinha as his replacement.

That seems to have prompted action at the London Stadium this weekend.

Then Sky Sports’ north east reporter Keith Downie set the record straight on the situation and made it clear that Newcastle

had not even submitted a bid for Barnes.

While the Hammers were awaiting the Declan Rice money before submitting their own bids for players, Newcastle appeared

to move on to brand new targets.

We reported on Hammers News at the weekend that there was a glimmer of hope for David Moyes with Eddie

Howe allegedly making Moussa Diaby his prime target over Barnes.

The mega rich Magpies were then linked with Juventus and Italy winger Federico Chiesa.

That came amid reports Barnes has made it clear he wants to move to London.

All the while West Ham’s prime target Barnes remains available during a period where Newcastle – had they wanted him –

had clear run at the attacker.
