It appears to be a race against time for Leeds United to acquire the player that’s believed to be the number
one transfer target for new manager, Daniel Farke.
With just a fortnight left until the start of the 2023/24 Championship campaign, Farke and new owners, 49ers Enterprises,
need to pull out all of the stops if they want to get players in through the door at Elland Road.
After seemingly losing faith in Illan Meslier, Farke’s preferred goalkeeping option is believed to be Bayern Munich’s
Alexander Nubel.
The 26-year-old is available for sale, but according to Sky Sports Germany, the Bavarian giants are leaning towards a one-
year loan deal with no option to buy that Stuttgart have proposed, and they want to make a definitive decision within the
next 48 hours.
Sport BILD on the other hand report that Leeds are willing to offer the reigning Bundesliga champions €10m (£8.5m) in
order to secure Nubel’s services on a permanent deal this summer.
In order to give Farke the best possible chance of getting the Yorkshire-based side back up into the Premier League at the
first attempt, he needs to be backed in the transfer market.
If the player himself decides that playing in England isn’t for him of course, that puts a whole different spin on the situation.
Until that is communicated to Leeds, however, they need to do everything they can to persuade Nubel that he will thrive
until Farke’s tutelage.

Report: Club have decided their 24-year-old defender won’t be joining Leeds United
Palmeiras have told Leeds United that left-back Joaquin Piquerez is not for sale this summer.
That is according to Torcedores, who report despite contact from Leeds to bring the 24-year-old to Elland Road, Palmeiras’
board have ruled out the departure of anymore of their players.
Leeds are in the market for a new left-back this summer and Piquerez is the latest name to be linked with a move as the
Whites look to ramp up their transfer activity.
Charlie Taylor and Ryan Manning are also among the names to have been mentioned as potential targets, though the latter
has already sealed a switch to Southampton.
Junior Firpo is currently the only recognised left-back at the club, and he is expected to move on following Leeds’ relegation
in May.
Palmeiras tell Leeds Piquerez is not for sale
It is unclear at this stage how much Leeds would be willing to pay for Piquerez, though Palmeiras’ stance make a deal
unlikely before it has even got off the ground.
Piquerez is well known to former Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa with the defender having played 90 minutes in the 68-year-old’s
second game in charge of Uruguay, which was his ninth cap for his country.
He has spent the entirety of his career in South America and has now made over 100 appearances for Palmeiras, who are one of the best teams in Brazil.
During his time with the club, Piquerez has scored five goals and registered nine assists, winning one league title, a Copa Libertadores and Recopa Sudamericana.
Piquerez would clearly represent a big coup for Leeds but it appears as though Palmeiras will block any attempt at a move.
