DONE DEAL: BURNLEY SIGNED 26 YEAR OLD CHAMPIONSHIP ACE WITH 9 GOALS AND 10 ASSISTS WHO IS “AS GOOD AS ANYONE”

According to the Telegraph, Burnley are targeting a deal for Coventry City’s Gustavo Hamer.

Burnley are close to securing a deal for James Trafford, and Dara O’Shea and Jordan Beyer have already joined the club.

Borussia Dortmund youngster Soumaila Coulibaly is also on the verge of a switch to Burnley this summer. Vincent Kompany

is now keen to bring Hamer to Turf Moor as he endeavours to build a squad capable of surviving and thriving in the Premier

League.

Hamer came close to reaching the top flight with Coventry City last season, although ultimately his fine strike in the

Championship Play-Off final wasn’t enough to take the club to the promised land of the Premier League as Luton Town

instead emerged victorious.

The 26-year-old may now be about to get his chance to prove his quality at the top level with the Clarets.

The Brazil-born forward – who represented the Netherlands at international level for the under-20s side – has been with

Coventry since 2020. He has been a first team regular since his arrival, but took his game to a new level last season as he

became a more potent goal threat from the middle of the park. Hamer racked up 9 goals and 10 assists in the Championship

last season. Coventry boss Mark Robins has heaped praise on Hamer, saying he is “as good as anyone in the league,” as

quoted by Leeds Live.

If Hamer can bring that kind of form to the Premier League then he will be a brilliant addition to Kompany’s side.

BURNLEY SHOULD OFFER EXPERIENCED FREE AGENT A DEAL

Andros Townsend is currently taking part in pre-season training with Burnley, as reported by the BBC. Townsend is a free

agent, having left Everton at the end of last season upon the expiry of his contract.

The 31-year-old winger endured an extremely frustrating campaign with the Toffees last time out. He was forced to watch on

from the sidelines for the entirety of the season as he recovered from a cruciate ligament injury.

He will be hoping to get back to full fitness as soon as possible, and eager to prove that he can still cut it at Premier League

level. If he impresses whilst training with Burnley, Vincent Kompany may even be tempted to offer the 13-cap former

England man a contract at Turf Moor.

Should Burnley sign Andros Townsend?

If Townsend can prove his fitness, then he could be a handy addition to Kompany’s squad. He has a great chance to impress

whilst training under Kompany’s watchful gaze. The Belgian coach has built a youthful squad, which romped to the

Championship title last season. Some extra experience could help them to survive in the top flight this season though.

Across spells with Spurs, Crystal Palace and Everton, Townsend has amassed more than 250 Premier League appearances.

In that time he has managed 25 goals, 35 assists, and earned a reputation as a hard-working, professional wide man with an

eye for the occasional spectacular strike from range.

He wouldn’t be a regular starter for Burnley, but Townsend would be an affordable addition, and could prove a smart move

amidst a busy summer for Burnley.
