James Trafford is set to undergo a Burnley medical and complete a £19million move from Man City, sources have told
Football Insider.
The England Under-21 goalkeeper hero is now able to put the finishing touches to the Clarets’ club-record signing following
the end of his international involvement.
However, because of a sell-on clause added to the agreement, 15% of that cash will go to Trafford’s old team, Carlisle United.
On May 15, Football Insider was the first to report that Clarets manager Vincent Kompany intended to attack his former
team in order to recruit the 20-year-old goalkeeping wonder.
While Trafford was playing for loan club Bolton in their match against Barnsley on May 13, Kompany observed the action.
Kompany has identified the England Under-21 international as a “star in the making”, one source said.
Trafford kept six consecutive clean sheets and saved a last-minute penalty in the final as England won the European Under-
21 Championship.
The 20-year-old made 52 appearances across all competitions for Bolton in the 2022-23 season and kept 26 clean sheets in
those outings.
Burnley are looking for reinforcements between the sticks after being promoted for the Premier League following an
impressive Championship-winning campaign.
Current number one Arijanet Muric also joined from Man City and put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Clarets last
summer.
