Grant Williams has been a very solid role player over the previous four seasons.
The former Tennessee star is coming off a year where he averaged 8.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.7
assists per contest while shooting 45.4% from the field and 39.5% from the three-point range in 79
games for the Boston Celtics.
On Wednesday, Williams was officially traded to the Dallas Mavericks in a sign-and-trade (which
included the San Antonio Spurs).
Via The Celtics: “BOSTON – The Boston Celtics announced today that the team has
acquired two second-round picks and the right to swap a third second-round pick as part
of a three-team sign-and-trade deal with Dallas and San Antonio in which forward Grant
Williams will join the Mavericks.”
Williams had spent his entire four-year career with Boston and has career averages of 6.2 points, 3.4
rebounds and 1.2 assists per contest while shooting 45.1% from the field and 37.9% from the three-point
range in 288 regular season games.
In addition, the 24-year-old has appeared in an impressive 61 NBA playoff games.
On July 5, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported the details of Williams’ new contract with the Mavs.
Via Charania: “The Mavericks are acquiring Celtics restricted free agent Grant Williams
on a four-year, $54 million deal via sign-and-trade, per sources. WME Sports’ Bill Duffy
and Erik Kabe completed the new contract for Williams.”
The Mavs have an elite roster that features Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic, but the team is coming off a
disappointing year where they were the 11th seed in the Western Conference and missed the NBA
playoffs.
As for the Celtics, they lost Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals to Jimmy Butler and the Miami
Heat.
