According to sources who spoke to Football Insider, Jess Thorup, the former manager of FC Copenhagen, has surfaced as a
candidate for the vacant manager’s position at Sheffield Wednesday.
The 53-year-old hasn’t had a job since quitting FC Copenhagen in September, but his name has been put to the short list of
applicants for Wednesday.
As a result of the unexpected departure of Darren Moore, the Yorkshire side is now looking for a new manager.
After two years in command of the team and guiding them to promotion to the Championship via the playoffs in 2022–
2023, Moore left Hillsborough in June.
Wednesday is in the process of hiring a new manager, and they have spoken with a number of applicants, including Dean
Smith, the former manager of Aston Villa.
Thorup, who has established himself as a successful manager in Denmark, is also vying for the position.
Thorup began his managerial career at Esbjerg in Denmark before taking the Under-20 and Under-21 national team
coaching position.
Thorup then took over as manager of Midtjylland for three years, winning the Danish Superliga in 2017–18.
Thorup spent three years as the manager of Gent and Genk in Belgium. In 2020, he returned to Denmark with FC
Copenhagen, where he won a second league championship in 2021/22.
Thorup left the team in September 2022 after a disappointing start to the league season, however he finished his stint in
command at Copenhagen with a 55.68% win rate after overseeing 88 games.

Who led Sheffield Wednesday’s training as managerless Owls return for preseason
Sheffield Wednesday players were put through their paces over the weekend as preparations for the 2023/24 campaign got
underway, with the club’s manager search ongoing.
Owls chairman, Dejphon Chansiri, is currently on the lookout for Darren Moore’s replacement following a mutual decision
to part way last month, and with just over a month to go until the new season begins he’ll be eager to make an appointment
as soon as possible.
Wednesday players came back in for testing on Friday before getting back on the grass on Saturday, and it’s understood that
things were led by U21s manager, Neil Thompson, a man no stranger to the role given his spell as interim boss prior to
Moore’s arrival in 2021.
