Done Deal: 34 Yres leaves West Brom on free transfer, To For Sheffield Wednesday, Medical Scheduled

David Button is set to leave West Brom on a free transfer with Reading and Sheffield Wednesday

interested in his services, according to BirminghamLive.

Writing on their official website (21 July), it has been reported that the veteran goalkeeper could be set to exit The

Hawthorns as he is no longer in the plans of the management team and has been left out of training and games.

Button is entering the final year of his contract and after reports that he has been allowed to enter talks with Reading about a

move, more has been shared about his current status with an exit now seemingly inevitable.

“It’s understood that a move isn’t imminent, but that Reading, and Sheffield Wednesday, are interested in signing Button,”

they wrote.

“It’s expected that, with Button’s contract situation, any deal would likely be a free transfer.”

Makes sense

Button’s future at The Hawthorns was over the second he got dropped from the team by Steve Bruce, and when Carlos

Corberan opted to continue along the same lines it was confirmed.

Alex Palmer and Josh Griffiths are ahead of him in the first-team pecking order heading into this season, and the

management team’s decision to include Ted Cann and Brad Foster in training ahead of him shows him that an exit has to

happen.

With that being the case it would be silly for West Brom to put any obstacles in his way to get that move, so a free transfer

makes the most sense.

They would still be able to get his wages off the books entirely and that will hopefully free up some space for new signings

elsewhere in the squad, because they’re very needed.

The new season is just a few weeks away and no new arrivals have come in yet, so Corberan has a huge uphill task this

season.
