As the international break enters its second day, Dave scoured Liverpool-related websites for news and things to discuss.

This Is Anfield produced a feature on the No.6 role, in which Dave examines the employment of Alexis MacAllister and the midfield in general.

We all expected when Liverpool purchased Alexis at the start of the summer that he’d be plugged into one of the n0.8 spots, but with unsuccessful transfers for Caicedo and Lavia, Liverpool never addressed the starting no.6 position after Fabinho’s departure.

So far, Alexis has been used in the no.6 position with mixed results. Dave examines Alexis’ role for Brighton and compares it to his at Liverpool.

Dave also considers the other players in the midfield and their impact on the overall midfield.

The Harvey Elliott discussion rages on, with the coaching staff clearly seeing the youngster as a midfielder, while other fans wonder if he has the defensive nous to perform in that position, especially when contrasted to the steadiness that someone like Curtis Jones provides.

Dave also considers Dominik Szoboszlai and wonders if the Hungarian sensation can do even better.

If Liverpool addressed the No.6 position, would the increased freedom allow Dominik to play higher? More objectives? Give more assistance? It will be interesting to observe if and when Liverpool purchases a starting no.6.

Liverpool to make January move for Real Betis winger Assane Diao?

Liverpool have reportedly expressed interest in signing 18-year-old Real Betis winger Assane Diao in January, with Mohamed Salah‘s future at the club still uncertain.

The teenager is said to be highly rated, and his performances for the Spanish La Liga side this season have already attracted the attention of several clubs across Europe.

After arriving at Real Betis in the summer of 2021, Diao initially joined the club’s youth ranks but progressed rapidly and has now already made four appearances for the first team and scored three goals this season.

As reported by Fichajes, Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of Diao and would be willing to shell out the player’s full release clause, which is believed to be in the region of £26m.

According to the source, the uncertainty surrounding Salah’s future may lead Liverpool to consider hiring a new winger after the club turned down a £150 million proposal from Saudi club Al-Ittihad during the summer transfer window.

Despite fending off the PIF-owned club throughout the transfer season, the Saudi Pro League club is expected to return with a better offer for the Egyptian next year.

Diao’s current contract expires in the summer of 2027, and while Los Verdiblancos will most likely strive to keep him, they may find it tough if possible bidders agree to trigger the contractual release clause.

Before the international break, Liverpool drew 2-2 with Brighton & Hove Albion, with Salah scoring both goals.
