Cowboys Playoff Elimination Means Benching Rush for Lance, Says Insider

With the Dallas Cowboys’ playoff hopes hanging by a thread, an insider suggests that the team should consider benching backup quarterback Cooper Rush in favor of Trey Lance. This recommendation comes following the Cowboys’ unexpected elimination from playoff contention, leaving fans and analysts alike questioning the team’s next steps for the remainder of the season.

Trey Lance, acquired by the Cowboys in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers earlier this season, has yet to see significant action on the field, with Rush serving as the primary backup behind Dak Prescott. However, with the Cowboys’ playoff berth slipping away, many believe it’s time for the team to take a look at their future at the quarterback position, with Lance offering more upside and potential than Rush.

Cooper Rush has filled in admirably for Prescott in the past, winning key games in 2022 when Dak was sidelined with an injury.

But his performance this season has been inconsistent, with Rush struggling in relief of Prescott during some critical moments. A change at the backup quarterback position could be the fresh start the team needs to evaluate Lance’s skills in a game situation.

Lance, still considered a highly talented prospect despite limited playing time in San Francisco, possesses a strong arm and athleticism that could provide a different dimension to the Cowboys’ offense. With the season no longer a race for the playoffs, Dallas has little to lose by giving Lance more reps. Evaluating the former third overall pick could provide valuable insight into his development and whether he can contribute to the team’s long-term future.

While this decision would certainly raise some eyebrows, the Cowboys may view it as a necessary step toward assessing their quarterback depth heading into the offseason. Fans are eager to see if the team will make the move as they look beyond this disappointing season.
