David Ornstein says ‘consistently outstanding’ player does not want to leave Liverpool
David Ornstein has shared the information he has been given about the future of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.
The Athletic journalist has noted what Salah’s plans are regarding Liverpool at this moment in time.
So, what has been reported about Liverpool and Egypt international forward Mohamed Salah? Let’s take a look.
Mohamed Salah wants to stay at Liverpool
Well, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah does not plan on leaving the Premier League club anytime soon.
Ornstein has noted that Salah wants to continue to play for Liverpool beyond the end of the season and could stay at Anfield for longer.
The Egypt international forward, who, according to former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood is “consistently outstanding every single game” and is “always a threat” is under contract at Liverpool until the summer of 2025.
There was interest in Salah from the Saudi Pro League in the summer of 2023, and the former Chelsea player has been linked with moves to Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2024 as well.
“It was suggested to me some weeks ago – as mentioned on a previous Q&A – that Salah is still keen to compete at the top level beyond this season and that there was a good chance he stays longer at Liverpool.
“But we haven’t heard anything about contract talks (I think Liverpool are planning to start addressing these situations in the new year) and come July he’ll have only 12 months left on his terms.
“The Saudi Pro League was never expected to reignite its pursuit of Salah in January but unless Liverpool get something sorted in the next few months it would be no surprise to see another big push next summer.”
I hope Mohamed Salah stays at Liverpool
I hope that Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah does not leave at the end of the season. I sincerely hope that he stays at Anfield.
Salah is a world-class player who is still doing well. He is 31 now, but he is not showing any signs of slowing down.
The forward is banging in the goals for fun and remains as potent as ever. It would be a shame for Liverpool and the Premier League if he left in the summer of 2024.
Salah has scored 11 goals and given seven assists in 17 Premier League matches for Liverpool so far this season. The forward has also scored three goals in two UEFA Europa League starts for Jurgen Klopp’s side this campaign.

Liverpool prepare offer to secure signing of £25million winger next month – Report
Liverpool are looking to replace Mohamed Salah and as per reports, the name of Johan Bakayoko is once again in the lime light.
In the summer, Salah was linked with a move away from Anfield and the Merseysiders were interested in luring the £25million-rated winger from PSV Eindhoven.
News – Liverpool told initial £39million bid will be accepted – Report
However, the 20-year-old ended up staying with the Dutch giants, who have been in ridiculous form this season.
According to Spanish source, Fichajes, Klopp has requested the Reds to sign Bakayoko next month to replace Salah in the short and the long term.
The Egyptian superstar will turn 32 next year and should soon be replaced. Moreover, he is expected to be away for 4-6 weeks due to the AFCON and at the moment, there is no quality player to cover for him on the right flank.
The media outlet have mentioned that Liverpool are willing to use their January transfer budget to secure the signing of Bakayoko.
Ben Doak is talented but extremely inexperienced and Liverpool need a quality star to push for the Premier League title.
Bakayoko is a pacy right winger, who directly contributed in 15 goals last term. This season, he has already directly contributed in 17 goals for PSV.
Thus far, the Dutch club have won all 16 games in the Eredivisie this season and have also booked their place in the knock-out stage of the Champions League.
PSV will face Dortmund in the CL in February and would surely not want to lose one of their best players in the middle of the campaign.
However, it must be remembered that last winter, they allowed their best player, Cody Gakpo, to move to Anfield.
Have your say – Should Liverpool submit a bid to sign Johan Bakayoko next month?
£54-£72million player could agree Liverpool move – Club eyeing replacement – Report
Liverpool are currently linked with Thiago Alcantara and the Spaniard could agree a move to Anfield as per reports going on in Germany.
Yesterday, we covered a report (via Sport Bild – Christian Falk) claiming that the Bayern Munich star wants to join Liverpool and does not want to extend his contract with the Bundesliga champions.
News – Liverpool backed to sign £110,000 a week midfielder
The former Barcelona player’s contract with the German club will expire next year and we stated (via AS) that his valuation is around 50 million euros.
However, as per another famous German source in the form of Kicker, the 29-year-old midfielder is going to cost more than 50 million euros. It is mentioned that Bayern would want around 60-80 million euros (£54-£72million) from the sale of their midfielder.
Kicker claim that the German giants are eyeing the signing of Kai Havertz and if Thiago leaves for around 60-80 million euros then the cash could be used to replace him with the Bayer Leverkusen playmaker.
It is stated that everything was perhaps negotiated with the 37-capped La Roja star but now there is hesitation to sign extension and he could end up leaving for the newly crowned Premier League champions, who are interested in hiring his services (Kicker)
Thiago is naturally a creative central midfielder but he can play in the defensive and attacking third as well (Transfermarkt). Last season, the former La Liga player scored 2 goals and provided 6 assists in the league for the Bavarians, who have recently sealed their 8th Bundesliga title in a row.
His injury record does not look good to be fair. This term, he has already missed 9 games due to injury. In the last campaign, the Spaniard was out for 6 games and in the 2017-18 season, he missed 19 fixtures due to injury (Transfermarkt).
I do think that the price tag of £54-£72million is way too much for someone who will be out of contract in 12 months. We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the coming days. For the latest updates, watch this space.
