Club chairman reacts: Arsenal would be guaranteed champions if they signed a £60 million player last summer ‘instead of Havertz’:

Darragh MacAnthony, chairman of Peterborough United, believes Arsenal would have won the Premier League if they had signed Ivan Toney instead of Kai Havertz in the summer.

The Gunners have had a good start to the season and are still in the title race. They are only two points behind Tottenham Hotspur at the top of the table. Arsenal made a mistake in selecting Havertz over Toney, according to MacAnthony.

In the summer, Arsenal paid £65 million to sign Kai Havertz from Chelsea (Sky Sports).

Many people questioned Mikel Arteta at the time, and they continue to do so today, more than four months after the Gunners signed him.

Havertz has had a terrible season so far. He simply hasn’t been able to adjust to Arsenal’s style of play, which is hurting everyone around him.

Nobody will bet their house on Arsenal winning the Premier League with Havertz in their lineup. Posh chairman MacAnthony doubts it, but he believes the Gunners would have won the Premier League if they had signed Ivan Toney instead of Havertz in the summer.

“Chelsea should’ve bought him in August and they would’ve had a readymade striker ready to go in January, who is already in with the dressing room and well in with the manager,” he said on talkSPORT.

“It didn’t make a difference to them. So they could’ve done it; they had the funds; they should’ve purchased him in August.

“Arsenal should have bought him in August instead of Havertz.” Havertz isn’t going to help them win the championship. Ivan Toney guarantees them the championship.”

Toney is still available for signing by Arsenal in January.

There was no way Arsenal or any other club would sign Ivan Toney this summer because the Englishman is banned until the beginning of next year.

Bringing him in six months earlier would have given him the time he needs to adjust to his new surroundings, but no club would take such a big risk, especially given his valuation of at least £60 million (Eurosport).

Toney’s return date is quickly approaching, as is the January transfer window. Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for him, and he is said to want to join the Gunners as well.

It will be interesting to see what happens, but MacAnthony is certain that Arsenal will win the Premier League if Toney leads their attack.
