Chelsea’s ‘confirmed’ transfer of Christopher Nkunku is the reason for the most recent delay

Since initial reports said Christopher Nkunku had consented to join Chelsea, the team has only won six games. It is a tale that mostly explains why the agreement has not yet been made public. The athlete has not been in a position to sever connections with RB Leipzig because he was out with an injury at the time after missing the World Cup owing to a heartbreaking late setback on the eve of the competition. It would be tough to leave the team in the middle of the season after four years.

Even nevertheless, a few weeks after the summer transfer market closed, it immediately became known in the public that Chelsea had established a pre-arrangement to sign him. They pushed to make a move last year under Thomas Tuchel only to discover that he had committed his future to the German team until 2026. Initial medical examinations were performed in Germany when Tuchel was still in charge, so that quickly became apparent to be something of a smokescreen. Nkunku was almost already a Chelsea player when Graham Potter was hired. Much has happened since then, but no statement has yet been made, and a new head coach has entered the building.
