Burnley withdrew from a prospective €20 million player deal because they “did not want to participate in a bidding war.”

Burnley withdrew from a potential deal for Bart Verbruggen, a player they had targeted for some time, because they “did not

want to participate in a bidding war” with Brighton.

Het Nieuwsblad reports that Burnley has rekindled its interest in the highly regarded goalkeeper after failing to sign him in

the previous summer.

While assembling his team for his first season as manager of Burnley, Vincent Kompany was thought to be interested in

Verbruggen, with whom he had previously worked at Anderlecht.

But negotiations failed because Anderlecht insisted on standing their ground, and the Clarets eventually focused their

attention elsewhere.
Since then, Verbruggen has cemented his position as the club’s top player, which has raised rumors about his future in

Belgium.

Het Nieuwsblad reports that a contract is now in place for him to join Brighton for €20 million, which confirms the long-

held belief that he will be moving this summer.

Before finalizing the agreement and becoming the most expensive goalkeeper in Belgian history, he is scheduled to undergo

a physical with the Seagulls.

Burnley, who was also ‘interested’ once more, had been a rival for Roberto de Zerbi’s team, but it is revealed that they

ultimately decided against it.
