Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is the subject of interest from La Liga team Atletico Madrid, according to a Tutto Mercato Web source.
The Tottenham Hotspur midfield general is the Colchoneros’ main target for the next summer transfer window. And a deal
for the Danish international is now being discussed by the two clubs.
The development of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s professional career has been peculiar. Before graduating from Bayern Munich’s
youth program, the 27-year-old spent the most of his formative years there.
However, he only made 20 appearances for Bayern Munich before joining Southampton and relocating to England.
The Danish midfielder’s stock rose considerably during his four-year stint with Southampton. And he also served the Saints as their captain before joining Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth £15 million in August 2020.
Since then, Hojbjerg’s status as a first-choice midfielder for Tottenham has remained unblemished.
The former Southampton captain has made nearly 150 appearances for the North London club. And he has also chipped in
with ten goals and 16 assists in his outings for Tottenham. But Hojbjerg’s Tottenham future is uncertain, with recent reports
suggesting a summer departure might be on
the cards. And Atletico Madrid will look to land him in the coming weeks.
The Colchoneros are keen on returning to the summit of La Liga next season after a sub-par 2022/23 season. And Diego
Simeone wants Atletico Madrid to bolster the midfield unit in the summer transfer window. Several candidates, including
Sofyan Amrabat, have thus emerged on Los Rojiblancos’ radar.
But the report by Tutto Mercato Web claims Hojbjerg features prominently on Atletico Madrid’s wishlist. And they are
negotiating a summer move for the Danish midfield general with Tottenham. But the North London club’s asking price is
posing a problem for Atletico Madrid. And they are hoping to bring the valuation down during discussions.
