Breaking news: Tottenham Completes shock move for Bayern Munich star, MIGHT BE A DONE DEAL

Report: Tottenham plotting shock move for Bayern Munich star

Fichajes have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are considering a shock move for Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane next summer as the winger edges closer to the final year of his contract.

Tottenham and Bayern seemingly have a good relationship, having agreed on a deal for Harry Kane last summer before Eric Dier followed the England captain from Spurs to Bavaria this month.

It has now emerged that the two clubs could once again do business at the end of the season, with the Lilywhites plotting to bring Sane to the Premier League.

Bayern Munich are wary about Leroy Sane’s contract

The report points out that the German international’s current deal at the Allianz Arena runs out in 2025 and Bayern do not want to allow the player to run into the final year of his contract.

With the parties not close to agreeing on a new deal, it is asserted that Sane seems ‘destined’ to leave the Bundesliga side at the end of the season.

Fichajes say that Ange Postecoglou’s men see the 28-year-old as the sort of signing they need to complete for the title next season, with the pacy wide-man said to ‘fit perfectly’ with the Australian coach’s vision.

However, the outlet adds that Tottenham will face competition from both Arsenal and Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta also intent on landing Sane.

Five months is a long time in football and there is every chance that Sane will sign a new deal with Bayern before next summer. Even if he does not, Tottenham may not fancy their chances of winning the race for the 28-year-old, who is likely to be the subject of a major bidding war.

It has been revealed which Tottenham Hotspur player has been more reliable in front of goal than Mohamed Salah when trailing in the Premier League this season. The 31-year-old forward has enjoyed a spectacular start to the campaign, firing Liverpool to the top of the English top flight.

Salah has featured 20 times in the Premier League this term, scoring 14 goals and providing eight assists. His impressive performances have proven integral to the Reds’ title bid, with Manchester City, who have a game in hand, just five points adrift of first place.

However, while the Egypt international has prided himself as one of the most prolific players in the country, statistics have shown that his performance levels drop when Liverpool’s back is against the wall – unlike a certain Spurs player, who has thrived when chasing a lead.

As pointed out by Aurel Nazmiu – a senior data scientist at TwentyFirst Group – on X, formerly known as Twitter, Bukayo Saka, Pedro Porro and Pablo Sarabia have been some of the most dangerous players in the Premier League this season when their side is chasing a lead.

Meanwhile, as shown in the graph above, Salah, Gabriel Jesus and Callum Wilson have tended to become less threatening in the final third when their side is losing. While the Liverpool winger remains a dangerous outlet, Porro has generated far more ‘expected threat’ (xT) when his team have needed an equaliser.

Expected threat is the change in the probability of scoring in different sectors of the pitch resulting from passes, ball-carrying and any other means of moving possession across the field. It highlights the quality of players who don’t always find themselves directly contributing towards goals and rather their impact in possession affecting the probability of a goal being scored.

In this case, the data suggests that not only is Porro more inclined to generate more chances than Salah from losing positions but he’s also more likely to carry the ball into areas which have an increased chance of resulting in a goal. It must be said that the Spaniard has also been Spurs’ go-to set-piece taker in the absence of James Maddison.

With that being said, there are plenty of other variables which could suggest why Porro has been more effective when losing than Salah this season. For instance, have Tottenham been behind more often than Liverpool? And if so, how much more? Chasing a lead for 88 minutes is a lot different to conceding late into stoppage time.

Nevertheless, Postecoglou has been delighted with Porro’s progress this season. Earlier this month, the Lilywhites manager said: “I love Pedro because from the day I arrived he’s got so much passion and energy and enthusiasm for the game.

“He’s worked really, really hard on the defensive side of his game. Obviously, it’s a different kind of role. He’s used to playing as a wing back, and he’s got a lot more defensive responsibility, but we always knew he had the attacking qualities.”
