What Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane did after playing against each other last night
Former Liverpool players Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane faced each other in the King’s Cup in Saudi Arabia last night.
Henderson’s Al Ettifaq took on Mane’s Al Nassr for a place in the quarter-finals of the Saudi domestic trophy.
The encounter had a distinctly Liverpool character, with Steven Gerrard managing Al Ettifaq and Gini Wijnaldum, another former Red, in the starting XI.
But in the end, Mane and Al Nassr emerged victorious, with Sadio scoring the game-winning goal in extra time to advance his team.
Additionally, a wonderful moment between Henderson and the match-winner was seen by the Al Nassr Zone Twitter account after the game.
Mane, Henderson, and a third man wearing Liverpool’s away shirt from the previous season are positioned between each other in what appears to be the locker rooms following the match.
The Reds fan and Henderson hold up the Senegal forward’s No.10 shirt, with Mane providing a big smile and a thumbs up.
Al Nassr Zone claim that the former Reds attacker handed his old captain the shirt after the game.
Mane wins Henderson clash
With so many former Liverpool players now employed over in Saudi Arabia, we’ve already seen a bit of this so far this season.
Henderson and Mane have actually already met, taking each other on in the opening game of the season back in August.
There was also a nice moment between the pair before that, when they bumped into each other at a promotional event.
All of the niceties are a reminder of just how close the Liverpool side of old truly was.
With all the excitement going on amongst the fan base over Jurgen Klopp’s ‘Liverpool 2.0,’ former heroes can start to fade a little.
But it shouldn’t be forgotten that the likes of Henderson, Mane and Wijnaldum were the foundations on which the side that won it all were built.
Having spent so many years playing together, it’s still odd to see them come up against each other.
At least even in rivalry, it’s clear that the bond forged on Merseyside still remains.

Luis Diaz NOT in Liverpool squad tonight – ‘arrest made’ over father’s kidnapping
Luis Diaz did not travel for Liverpool’s League Cup fourth-round clash with Bournemouth this evening, as the search for his father continues.
Diaz has not been involved for the Reds since the distressing events of Saturday in his native Colombia, with the winger’s parents kidnapped.
His mother, Cilenis Marulanda, was swiftly rescued after roadblocks were set up around the town of Barrancas, but his father, Luis Manuel Diaz, is yet to be found.
On Tuesday, Marulanda led hundreds of locals marching the streets of the Diaz family’s neighbourhood, demanding the release of Diaz Sr.
While police and military continue the search, an arrest has been made for one of the individuals believed to be involved in the kidnapping.
Colombian outlet Cambio reports that the “bell ringer” for the crime was detained at a residence in Barrancas in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
It is claimed that the suspect “was the person who kept track of Luis Diaz‘s parents, and who informed the kidnappers about the couple’s movements on Saturday.”
The person detained is also believed to have “alerted the kidnappers about the movements of the police and the army,” but now he will be “key to knowing the whereabouts of his accomplices and returning freedom [to Diaz Sr].”
Cambio adds that Venezuelan authorities have informed their Colombian counterparts that the kidnappers did not cross the border into the country as feared.
Diaz has stayed on Merseyside following the events in his native country, with Liverpool providing staff to care for the player and his family in the UK.
According to the Mail, he has not travelled to Dean Court for Wednesday’s clash with Bournemouth.
