Breaking News: Phil Foden faces huge critcism as he has been pressured to leave both Man City and the England squad Due to…
Two England stars were spotted confronting each other during an open training session.
Gareth Southgate and Phil Foden.
Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier reportedly shared a heated exchange during a training session following England’s dire 1-1 draw with Denmark.
The pair confronted each other in the middle of training, with Trippier appearing to take exception to something Walker had said, as per The Sun.
Trippier is believed to have stood just meters away from Walker, gesticulating that there was a problem which needed to be sorted.
It was left to Walker’s Manchester City team-mate, Phil Foden, to act as peacemaker, with the situation quickly diffused.
The incident came just days after England slumped to a disappointing draw against fellow Group C opponents Denmark – a result that left the nation flat and expectations in the gutter.
It appears to be a sentiment that has carried over into the England squad too, as skipper Harry Kane is said to have called a ‘players’ summit’ following the stalemate.
The meeting – which coaches weren’t present for – was designed to give the disgruntled members of the England squad a chance to thrash out any differences they might have.
It’s also claimed there was a motivational speech from captain Kane, with the Bayern Munich star eager to remind his fellow team-mates just how good they really are.
Foden (right) is said to have difused a situation involving Walker (left) and Trippier.
Whether it will work or not remains to be seen, as England have failed to click into gear so far at Euro 2024.
Their only win came in nervous fashion against Serbia on Matchday 1, before slumping to Thursday’s draw in Frankfurt – a match where England registered just four shots on target.
Despite their struggles, the Three Lions sit top of their group, two points clear of second-placed Denmark.
A win against Slovenia in their final Group C outing will confirm the one-time winners as group winners, while likely setting up a favourable round-of-16 tie.
Winning Group C will not only see England avoid the side of the draw including Spain, Portugal and probably Germany, but also ensure a round-of-16 clash against one of the best third-place finishers.
While that doesn’t guarantee an easy ride, it should at least make things more simple on paper for England, and allow them to grow into the knockout stages.
If disaster strikes again, England fail to win and end up finishing second, it’s a rendezvous with familiar foes Germany in the round-of-16 instead.
Avoiding the red-hot host nation, as well as the supposed trickier side of the draw, will be of paramount importance to Gareth Southgate and his players, making Tuesday’s clash against Slovenia somewhat of a must-win.
