Looking back over previous transfer windows, the Citizens have moved many players in and out of the Etihad Stadium on loans, free transfers and permanent deals for significant transfer fees.

In terms of outgoing deals, City have seen the likes of Ilkay Gundogan, Cole Palmer, Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus leave in recent memory.

Now though, in the middle of another summer transfer period, some behind-the-scenes details have come to light regarding another player on the books at the Manchester club who has been involved in numerous deals throughout his career.

Juventus make contact over potential Joao Cancelo transfer move

According to a recent report from Calciomercato, Juventus have made contact over a potential move for Joao Cancelo.

The report also adds that while no official move has been made for the full-back, the Italian club have discussed the possibility and could look to land a deal for him if certain aspects are approved.

City need another solution with Cancelo

The Blues spent £60m (via BBC Sport) to sign the defender from Juventus back in the 2019 summer transfer window.

After then making 154 appearances for City, the Portuguese international joined Bayern Munich on loan in the middle of the Manchester club’s Treble-winning season.

Having then spent all of last season on loan at Barcelona, it has since been claimed that Cancelo is not in Guardiola’s plans.

Now that it has been reported that a move back to Turin could be a possibility for the defender, this may be a suitable solution for City and Cancelo, especially if the Italian side are able to strike a deal that would take him off the Blues’ hands permanently.

    • WHAT HAPPENED?

England’s overall average performance continued in their penalty shootout win over Switzerland in the quarter-final of Euro 2024. However, the one player that has received the highest amount of flack has been the Manchester City star – who failed to score a goal, register an assist, have a shot on target, create more than a single chance and lost the ball 19 times during his 115 minutes on the field.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The selections from Gareth Southgate and the formations used by the 53-year-old throughout the tournament have been heavily criticized by fans and pundits alike for not utilizing the skill sets of the stars lined in the team. He shifted to a three-man defence against Switzerland, and while the team did play better than their previous showings, the tournament is yet to see their best possible version.

    DID YOU KNOW?

Foden was replaced by Liverpool star man Trent Alexander-Arnold five minutes from the end of extra time and it was Alexander-Arnold who scored the winning penalty for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions to put them into the semi-final of the tournament against the Netherlands.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR FODEN?

It is likely that Southgate may not want to tinker too much with his side heading into the clash against the Netherlands on July 10, and Premier League Player of the Year Foden will likely have another chance to impress in the crucial contest.
