New Sheffield Wednesday boss Xisco Munoz will be seeking cost-effective ways to add quality to his squad, ahead of the

club’s return to Championship level.

The Owls have endured a slow start to the summer transfer window, and as things stand, Munoz only has a small squad of

first-team players to call upon. What’s more, key figures such as Lee Gregory and Barry Bannan are in the twilight of their

careers. Quality additions are needed, and several of them at that, if the Yorkshire side are to survive this season back in the

second tier.

With that in mind, Munoz should explore the possibility of bringing Maja to Hillsborough Stadium this summer on a free

transfer.

Who is Josh Maja?

The 24-year-old striker began his senior career at Sunderland, as was able to show enough raw potential at the Stadium of

Light to earn a move to Bordeaux. However, he struggled to settle at the French club, and has rarely held down a regular

starting berth in Ligue 1.

Former Sunderland boss Simon Grayson has previously hailed Maja’s “quality”, calling him “a bright young talent,” as

quoted by Chronicle Live.

Loan moves to Fulham in the Premier League and Stoke City in the Championship followed, before Maja found some form

last season back with Bordeaux, this time in the second tier of French football. Maja bagged 16 goals in 38 Ligue 2 outings.

Maja is still fairly young, and will be on a high after his strong season in front of goal. At this stage in his career he is ready to

shine at Championship level. Given he is a free agent, Wednesday should give him that chance. Maja certainly has to quality

to push the likes of Gregory for a starting berth.
