Martin Odegaard’s contract renewal at Arsenal is met with joy as Piers Morgan leads tributes to the club captain on social media
Arsenal received a huge boost just days before the North London Derby as captain Martin Odegaard signed a new long-term contract with the club.
The Norwegian midfielder arrived at the Emirates initially on loan during the January transfer window in 2021 before making his move permanent in the summer that same year.
While another tweeted: ‘Couldn’t ask for a better person to lead our young guns on.
First on the pitch, last off and always leading with confidence and composure. You just can’t help but feel excited for the years ahead.’
A third wrote: ‘Best captain since Thierry Henry or even Patrick Vieira.’
The midfielder has enjoyed a great start to the new campaign – scoring three goals in six games so far.

Arsenal completed the renewal of their signing of the decade in Mikel Arteta captain Martin Odegaard after new deal was secured.
MARTIN ØDEGAARD SIGNS NEW ARSENAL CONTRACT
I still remember the moment that Martin Odegaard signed for Real Madrid.
A Norway international at the age of 15 and signing for more than £2million as a 16-year-old in 2016 was a massive story, despite how naïve we would be of the prices for similarly aged players that were mere years away.
Arsenal were one of the teams interested in the then Stromsgodset starlet but when Los Blancos came calling, it is understandable he decided to move to Madrid.
However, the Gunners never waned in their gaze toward the improving attacking midfielder and when the time arrived that he would leave the Spanish capital, Mikel Arteta had already shown what he could get by coming to north London with that loan spell in 2021
