Breaking News: Maria Sharapova makes a scary and untold revelation about Serena Williams
The relationship between Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova has not always been roses and flowers. By virtue of their great rivalry the two champions, who often and willingly competed for the most important trophies at stake, have created sparks.
The old rusts are now part of the past, but the former Russian number one has not deleted from his mind the cumbersome figure of Serena: “She was definitely the opponent who intimidated me the most during my career,” said Maria Sharapova, who was only able to win twice in the previous 22 with the American.
Maria Sharapova opens up on Serena Williams
“When I was young I happened to lose 6-0 6-1 to Monica Seles, I was 16 years old and despite everything I shouted to my father that I had made a good match. Then I totally collapsed on my way home. But Serena Williams was my toughest rival to challenge”, said Maria Sharapova in the podcast Never Stand Still, winner of all 4 Slams.
Now, instead, after the career of both, a nice friendship and sincere complicity was born, off the field: “Now we can reflect on the past and have a good laugh. He has two children, a successful company. And now that I know her a lot I enjoy chatting with her via chat on our phones,” she admitted from Tennis Channel studios. Maria, now a successful businesswoman, is enjoying the Championchips show as a spectator.
Serena Williams is considered by many to be the best player of all time. The American “risked” to play her first official match on the circuit at the age of 14, but the WTA held everything up by preventing the Oakland tournament from awarding her a wild card so as not to add further weight to an already hard predestined course.
Serena Williams soon learned to build a kind of inner armor to try to manage the pressure in the best way and managed to win 73 singles titles, including 23 Slams.

Emma Raducanu got a very deserved milestone
The young British player has responded to all the criticism that has rained down on her in recent years by finding her tennis at Wimbledon, where she has just reached the 4th round, obtaining a well-deserved achievement
Emma Raducanu’s victory in the third round of Wimbledon against Maria Sakkari closes an important circle that (we hope) will also definitively silence all the haters of the young British champion. Three years after her first 4th round Major, at the All England Club – which then led her to win the title at Flushing Meadows – the young British player has qualified for the 4th round of the London Slam.
A well-deserved result, obtained by playing convincing tennis, which inspired the crowd on Centre Court. A victory that allowed Raducanu to obtain a well-deserved milestone: the young British player will be back in the WTA top-100 of the ranking at the end of Wimbledon, just one year after the surgeries of spring 2023.
At the on-court after the victory against Sakkari, the young British player underlined how she has rediscovered the joy for tennis, therefore analyzing her performance.
“Today was one of the most fun moments I’ve ever had on a tennis court. I really enjoyed every single moment of it. I was just like: How many times in your life are you going to get the opportunity to play for a full Centre Court? I’m really grateful for the support. I think having your inner passion, win or lose I feel like you’re just trying to win the day. Different days mean different things. Sometimes you don’t have a great day. Winning the day is going out there and giving it your all even if it’s not your best quality. I think some days you win the day and you play great tennis. It’s a give and take. But as long as you give it your all every single day,” she explained.
Raducanu – who is playing the Championships thanks to a wild card – thus returns to the round of 16 of a Major three years after New York, beating the Greek number 9 seed with a final score of 6-2 6-3 in 1 hour and 32 minutes. For Raducanu it is the second victory over a top-10 player after the success obtained last week over Jessica Pegula, in Eastbourne. Emma started with the right mentality, winning the first two very hard-fought games in which she had to save two break points.
