Man City could sell star Liverpool ‘wanted’ as Erik ten Hag ‘makes Jadon Sancho decision’
Liverpool rivals round-up: Manchester City could reportedly sell a reported Reds ‘target’, while Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag has reached a verdict on Jadon Sancho.
Somewhat unusually, Saturday saw as many as five of the Premier League’s ‘big six’ teams in action as the season resumed following the international break. Liverpool got things underway with a 2-0 victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby, briefly going top of the league.
Manchester City then took over the top spot by beating Brighton 2-1, holding on after the visitor halved the deficit in the closing stages.
Arsenal will be disappointed to have fallen behind Pep Guardiola’s side, but it will gladly take a point after falling two goals down to Chelsea.
Manchester United traveled to Sheffield United in the final game of the day, a match that was moved to accommodate for the Red Devils’ Champions League clash with Copenhagen on Tuesday.
United struggled against the league’s bottom club, but managed to come away with a 2-1 win in the end.
On Monday, Spurs, the only one of the sextet yet to play, will have a chance to move into sole possession of first place when it hosts Fulham.
Here, Liverpool.com takes a scan around the other big sides in the Premier League and around Europe to take a look at the news going on at the other clubs.
Erik ten Hag wants Jadon Sancho out and may need help from a Liverpool legend
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has decided that there’s no way back for the exiled winger Jadon Sancho, according to The Mirror.
Sancho has been training on his own at Carrington after he questioned the accuracy of his coach’s comments about his attitude.
Even if Sancho apologizes to his manager, Ten Hag will show him the door, because he believes the relationship is ‘beyond repair’.
His former club Borussia Dortmund is interested in taking him on loan in January, as is Juventus, but both sides would need United to cover some of his salary.
Man City ready to sell Kalvin Phillips after Liverpool links
Manchester City will listen to offers for midfielder Kalvin Phillips in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Star.
Premier League competitors Newcastle and West Ham are interested, along with Bundesliga giant Bayern Munich.
There’s a feeling that Phillips may have to leave the club if he’s to be in a position to start for England at the European Championships next year.
Pep Guardiola has greenlit his exit already, and there’s a possibility that he leaves on loan at first, provided the team in question agrees to pay his full wages and make his transfer permanent in the summer.
Liverpool.com says: The Athletic reported in the summer that Phillips was one of the names on Liverpool’s midfield shortlist, and the Reds still need a specialist number six who’s good enough to be a first-XI player.
Alexis Mac Allister has been filling in the role so far because Jürgen Klopp clearly has doubts over Wataru Endō, but the Argentine is primarily a number eight.
However, there appears to be little prospect of City agreeing to let him join the Reds, especially midway through the season.
There’s currently a one-point gap between the sides, and if they end up battling for the title, a winter transaction would be unthinkable.
