While it appears that Liverpool and one of their transfer targets have achieved a “verbal agreement,” their chances of competing in the Champions League next season may now be more difficult.
Following this week’s acquisition of Alexis Mac Allister, Liverpool’s summer reconstruction has begun.
Naturally, the next few months will be busy for the Reds as Jürgen Klopp looks to add players to a group that struggled throughout the 2022–23 season.
The Liverpool manager has the first piece of his puzzle in place after signing Mac Allister to a five-year contract, but there is still a lot of work for him and new sporting director Jörg Schmadtke to do.
As Man City and Pep Guardiola conclude their Champions League run, Liverpool knows what must happen next.

is that there is no shortage of names being linked with moves to Anfield. The tricky part could prove to be narrowing down the options and making sure they get the best possible outcome.

Khéphren Thuram and Liverpool are allegedly in’verbal agreement’ as the Reds try to add to the signing of Mac Allister.
According to Football Transfers, ‘advanced conversations’ have already occurred, and the focus is now on settling on a price with Nice for the 22-year-old.
There is considerable opportunity for bargaining, although Thuram is estimated to be worth roughly $69 million (£55 million/€64 million). The midfielder has also been linked to PSG and Newcastle United, although neither team is reportedly as interested in signing him as Liverpool.

West Ham adds to Champions League challenge
Liverpool will be aiming to rectify its poor season next year as it looks to earn its seat back at Europe’s top table.
Having missed out on the Premier League’s top four this season, the Reds will be playing in the Europa League in the 2023/24 campaign, and will be keen to make sure they don’t make the same mistake again.
Should they fall short again though, there is a chance they could still qualify for the Champions League, even by finishing fifth thanks to the Champions League rules changing and the competition being expanded.
With West Ham having lifted the Europa Conference League this week though, David Moyes’ side has just complicated things further, with the Hammers’ participation in next season’s Europa League potentially diluting the Premier League’s coefficient.
