In the race to sign Mike Tresor Ndayishimiye of KRC Genk, the Belgian Player of the Year, Crystal Palace has joined Premier League newcomer Burnley.
Last season’s closing few weeks offered a tantalizing preview of what Crystal Palace might develop into. In their final 10 Premier League games, Roy Hodgson’s team scored 18 goals after the handbreak and the chains were taken off. Against Leeds United, they had five hits. Four in West Ham’s favor.
Ebere Eze and Michael Olise improved dramatically, giving their grace and panache some appearance of regularity. A first top-half finish at Selhurst Park since 2014/15 may be possible with the addition of a more reliable center forward and a mass-producing assist machine like Mike Tresor Ndayishimiye to join Olise, Eze, and possibly Wilfried Zaha too, should he sign a new contract.
Tresor was a deserving winner of the Jupiler League Player of the Year award with 21 assists, totaling 24 across all competitions. In fact, only Rayan Philippe of FC Swift Hesperange in Luxembourg scored more goals for his teammates in all of Europe, with Tresor coming in second behind Kevin de Bruyne, Antoine Griezmann, Lionel Messi, et co. (Transfermarkt).
Crystal Palace join Burnley in race for Mike Tresor
In a statement made earlier this month, Tresor stated, “I have discovered that (Kompany) values my talents. “Of course, that is just lovely to hear. His Burnley team plays with a particular philosophy that would make me happy.
“Playing style has always been important to me when choosing a club,” said the player.
Therefore, the quality of the proposal being offered at Selhurst Park, as well as the mutual admiration between Tresor and Kompany, may determine whether Crystal Palace is able to defeat the Championship champions.
According to Het Laaste Nieuws, Burnley is now competing alongside Palace and Lille. Although not nearly a “concrete offer,” both teams have expressed interest.
All the good vibes that surrounding Palace after Hodgson returned in the spring have somewhat stagnated recently. Who will man the dugout for the Eagles the next season has not yet been decided. Concerns exist regarding Zaha’s future as well.
If Palace wants to persuade Tresor to go along for the ride, doubts and questions must be allayed.
