Jurgen Klopp responds shockingly for Manchester United as Dominik Szoboszlai is caught in a mistake for Liverpool.
Moments from Liverpool’s League Cup match against Bournemouth on Wednesday that you might have missed.
Following a deserved League Cup victory at Bournemouth on Wednesday night, Liverpool is still in the running on four fronts.
With 20 minutes remaining, Darwin Nunez, a substitute, scored the winning goal after Justin Kluivert had tied Cody Gakpo’s opening goal.
The Reds prevailed 2-1 in extremely challenging circumstances.
The result means Jurgen Klopp’s men have lost only once in 26 games in all competitions and have set up a quarter-final tie at home to West Ham United next month.
But there was plenty that went unnoticed or under the radar during the 90 minutes at the Vitality Stadium.
It wasn’t exactly a night to be stood out in the elements on the touchline. Not that the weather was ever going to stop Jurgen Klopp.
During a first-half break in play, the Liverpool boss left his technical area to discuss tactics with Curtis Jones only to be ushered back towards his designated space by the fourth official, a conversation that continued for several minutes afterwards.
And then, in the second half, Klopp leapt to his feet to berate Dominik Szoboszlai after the midfielder lost possession to allow Bournemouth a counter-attack.
Still, at least the manager was keeping warm.
With five substitutions allowed for each team these days, life has never been busier for a stadium announcer. And sometimes it’s not easy to keep up.
Take note of what transpired with the Bournemouth PA operator, who announced that Szoboszlai will be replaced by Diogo Jota with nine minutes remaining.
That was undoubtedly unexpected for the Hungarian, who had been replaced five minutes prior.
It was Cody Gakpo, the number eight for Liverpool, leaving, not the number eight.
Reds are lifted up
Following the final whistle, Liverpool wasted little time in hitting the road as their flight home was canceled owing to the weather.
And, before he began his post-match media conference, Klopp jokingly offered the ECHO a lift home with the temptation of there being food and television. Which seemed a bit of a tease, to be honest.
Seconds later, the Reds boss spotted a television in the press room and noted Manchester United were being thrashed at home by Newcastle United.
Klopp’s response of “oooh” followed by a grimace said it all.
The weather made matters particularly difficult regards timing sliding challenges correctly.
But that was still no excuse for Milos Kerkez going straight through Harvey Elliott in front of the dugout not long into the second half.
The Liverpool bench erupted and Kerkez was rightly cautioned, only to then continue taking out his frustration by yapping at his stricken opponent.
A bemused Elliott merely smirked at the Bournemouth man and gave him a gentle reminder of the current state of affairs.
