Breaking News: Genie Bouchard Steps Back from X After Controversial Post Involving Jessica Pegula which may cause her…

A post about American tennis star Jessica Pegula may have forced Eugenie Bouchard to take a brief break from X.

Two days after Jessica Pegula lost in last weekend’s U.S. Open’s final to Aryna Sabalenka, an X user wrote that they understand the hate the American gets because she is the daughter of Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula.

Bouchard responded: “Money can’t buy a US Open final lol.”

Many interpreted it as a diss from the Canadian, however, some X users came to Bouchard’s defence.

“Is everyone misunderstanding Genie’s tweet?,” one person asked. “I thought what she was saying is that having money can’t get you to a final. The implication being you’ve got to have talent and put in the work. I don’t think she’s hating on Jess at all. Or am I wrong?”

Another added: “I thought Genie was dissing Jess & I was really shocked. But yes, rereading it, it seems she’s actually complimenting Pegula.”

Bouchard responded with an eye roll emoji: “Literally how? I’m complimenting her, she achieved a [Grand Slam] finals because of hard work, dedication, etc. not because of money. You can’t buy your way thru the U.S. Open draw. She’s amazing. Leaving this app.”

In a press conference, Pegula, who won the National Bank Open in Toronto a couple of weeks before the U.S. Open, addressed how people ask about her upbringing and family.

“I did some media thing the other day too and they were, like, ‘What’s the most annoying thing?’” she said.

“It’s that people think I have a butler, that I get chauffeured around. I have a private limo, that I fly private everywhere… I’m definitely not like that.”

One TV feature that aired during the tournament showed Pegula on the subway with all her gear as she headed to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows.

She recalled one year where she was sitting in a car, stuck in traffic, and jumped out in frustration and made her way to the tournament the rest of the way by train.

Pegula, who was in her first Grand Slam final, lost 7-5, 7-5 to Sabalenka.

Bouchard, who has embarked on a new career in the pickleball world, reached the fourth round of the U.S. Open in 2014 and 2015.

Alas, Bouchard’s departure from X was short-lived.

She posted on Sept. 11, sharing photos from a trip to Indonesia.
