Harry Maguire is now “considering all his options” at Manchester United, including a West Ham move, after losing the
captaincy at Old Trafford, Sky Sports reports.
The England centre-back had Tweeted a message out Sunday afternoon (16 July) stating that he was “extremely disappointed” to lose the
armband but that he would “give [his] very all” for the club.
However, the “developing” story has quickly moved on to open the door for David Moyes to potentially land the 30-year-old this summer,
as he is now looking at a possible exit.
Speaking live on Sky Sports News on Sunday afternoon Dharmesh Sheth said: “This Harry Maguire story is developing by the minute it
seems, we just told you about what he’s tweeted… and we’ve just been told, we understand that he’s considering all his options after
having that captaincy removed by the manager Erik ten Hag.
“His situation is being monitored by a number of Premier League clubs, and a number of clubs in Europe as well, including West Ham…
“He’s said he’s no longer Manchester United captain, he would give his all while he’s wearing the shirt but he is considering all of his
options, including that of West Ham.”
Developments
It certainly looks like this could be a major change in the landscape with regards a possible move for Maguire, who previously appeared to
be against leaving Old Trafford.
Even allowing for his injury issues over the past year it didn’t appear that Ten Hag was convinced by the England international, preferring
the likes of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.
But if the symbolic move to take the armband off him is the move that changes things in Maguire’s head then it could be that he has just
moved a lot closer to the London Stadium.
It would definitely be a high profile signing for Moyes after losing the defender’s international teammate Declan Rice to Arsenal, and
arguably put Maguire in a much more suitable set up.
The Irons boss’ style should cater to what the former Leicester and Hull man is good at, rather than forcing him to play on the turn and
exposing his lack of speed.
What he might cost is sure to be key with various incoming business needed during the window, and his wages have been mooted as a
possible issue, but it appears he could now be open to a move.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers are also in the running for another England defender from Manchester this summer.

David Moyes takes power from David Sullivan in new twist
after West Ham United sack decision
West Ham United are now pushing ahead with their appointment of a new director after the future of David Moyes
was confirmed.
Numerous sack decisions have been made at the London Stadium over the past year, with the Scotsman surviving them all to continue his
rein despite some tough moments.
Now, it appears as though Moyes is calling the shots once again with the board going to the same man they nearly fired before making up
their minds.
Tim Steidten appears to be the frontrunner for the role, with the German locked in talks with the club.
It has been reported by The Guardian (15 June) that Steidten made a positive impression in early meetings with the club ahead of his
potential appointment.
Moyes has also been involved in the decisions at the very top, giving his blessing already for this appointment to go through, something he
may not have thought this time six months ago.
The manager has now taken the power from Sullivan, who will be going through his manager before signing off on any new deals or
appointments, how the tables have turned.
As tends to be the case, if a manager was under pressure or near the sack, he would never be involved in decisions such as this one at
whichever club.
Even with Moyes, this appears strange given that he may only have one more season left in charge of the club before both parties get ready
to separate.
Of course, he could be sacked before that if he cannot cover another poor Premier League effort with his European antics in the Europa
League after winning the Conference League.
Everyone involved with West Ham were delighted with lifting that European trophy, and it justified the decision to keep Moyes in charge
now and in the future with talk about his sack intensifying more than ever at times.
Now, he has all the power and it will be interesting to see how he uses it at West Ham – this appointment could be the very first example
at the London Stadium.
