Breaking News: Coco Gauff’s Wimbledon Woes as she was Outplayed and Outsmarted by Emma Navarro “A Controversial Exit”

Coco Gauff’s hopes of winning her second Grand Slam title at this year’s Wimbledon have come to an end after she suffered a surprise loss to fellow American Emma Navarro.

Navarro, seeded at No. 19, delivered a huge performance on Sunday event to oust second-seeded Gauff 6-4 6-3 and progress into her first-ever Grand Slam quarterfinal at Wimbledon.

Even though 2023 US Open champion Gauff entered the match as the favorite, it was Navarro who was basically dictating and controlling everything for the majority of the match. Throughout their meeting, Navarro was able to execute her game plan – which included targeting Gauff’s forehand – and she never panicked and ended up getting the job done in two sets.

When Gauff fell down by a set and a break, she started showing nerves and tension as at one point she turned to her team and desperately asked for some advice and tips. But whatever the top-ranked American female tennis player heard didn’t work and she ended up concluding her run in the round-of-16.

For a place in the Wimbledon semifinal, Navarro will play against recent French Open runner-up Jasmine Paolini.

How Navarro beat Gauff?

Early in the match, it was actually Gauff who started better after she earned the first break of the match in the fifth game. However, Navarro had an instant response, breaking back Gauff in the sixth game and then also saving two consecutive break points in the following game to avoid going down by a break again.

A few games later in the 10th game – the game in which Gauff was serving to stay in the first set – Navarro stepped up and broke the 2023 US Open champion to seal the opener.

Up by a set, Navarro also started the second set by breaking Gauff in the fourth game and that’s when the No. 2 seed seemingly started to get really nervous and stressed. After going up by a set and a break, Navarro then firmly held on to her serve for the remainder of the set – not allowing Gauff any break points – to complete her win.

Holger Rune is wary of Djokovic’s physical difficulties

Holger Rune will challenge Novak Djokovic in the 4th round of Wimbledon, in a match that will say a lot both about the physical conditions of the Serbian champion, and about the crisis that the young Dane is going through, who will try to return to the quarterfinals of the London Slam, as happened last year.

Rune, who defeated the Frenchman Quentin Halys in the 3rd round, does not trust the Serbian champion, underlining at the press conference how Nole seems to move well on the court. Furthermore, the Dane has argued about his matches placed on a side court. For two consecutive times, Rune’s match was placed by the organizers on court 18, a choice that did not please the Dane.

“I don’t usually pay attention to the court I’m on but I was a little surprised that they put me on 18. I accepted that. Then they moved us to Court 1 after the rain stoppage and I liked it because the energy is similar to that of the center court. I was close to losing but I’m happy to have won. Djokovic? I expect a tough battle. It’s always the case when you play against him. He’s one of the toughest tennis players of all time and one of the most successful. I expect a very high level.

I know he had surgery recently, but I actually trained with him the first week and he seems to be moving well, with confidence. I’ll have to play my best tennis if I want to have a chance of beating him. That’s what I’ll try to do. The first four shots in tennis are very important, especially on grass, because usually there aren’t such long rallies. I’m trying to improve especially in that area. I think I showed it against Halys, who has a great serve and gives his all for the rest. I needed to be ready with my legs to be prepared for the answer,” he said.
